Discography

"Follow your heart" is our first and only CD to this point it is independantly recorded and distributed. Recorded under the name "The Barking Sharks" . We tweaked our line up a wee bit and changed the name of the band....new name and a fresh start, it is going to be exciting.

Bio

Madcats

We are a mixture of each others styles and influences. We have been together as an unit for over 5 years and 3 of the band members for over 10 years and 2 for 20 plus years. We have never sounded better than we do now and we want to share our sound and passion for music with as many people as we can. We are unique in the sense that we have play for the love of music rather than the fan fare and notoriaty. Recognition is nice and it warms the heart but ,we get more out of seeing people have so much fun listening and dancing to our music.

THE BAND MEMBERS

Albert Glencross (guitar) is a blues player through and through. Coming from the Eastern Canada and moving to Toronto in the early 80's he revered players like Jimmie Vaughan,Robert Cray,Albert Collins, Albert King, Buddy Guy and SVR just to name a few. He does not play the blues the blues plays him,all you have to do is listen and you will know what I mean.
David Cunningham (Bass Guitar),born in England and growing up in 80's his influences were varied from Punk,New wave to R&B and Funk. His ability is limitless and his passion is tremendous, just 1 word GROOVE.
Mike Burke (drummer),the youngest of the lot, studied music at Humber college and is masterful technician with the drumsticks. There is no beat that eludes this young man, he is as steady as they come. Hailing from Northern Ontario, Mike's easy going nature and friendly disposition makes the band dymanics work ( in more ways than one).
Kirk Guitard ( vocals, sax) last but not least, Kirk is a seasoned veteran who has been around the block and is the icing on the cake for The Madcats. Also from Eastern Canada ( New Brunswick) , Kirk brings his laid back saxaphone style and distinct vocal phrasing to round out the overall Madcat experience.
We have played many venues over the years. Our first gig was at THE BLACK SWAN (on danforth) in 1988ish. It was a blast and we played there a few more times before going to GROSSMANS TAVERN, CHICAGOS on Queen, THE PINETREE at Queen and Bathurst and The old HOLIDAY just down the street. One of our most unforgettable gigs was at DOUBLES on Weston Road where a brawl broke out on the dance floor. We continued to play while people were falling into our singer and when the police arrived, we stopped, but the fight kept on going .....good times. Our favorite matinee was THE BRUNSWICK HOUSE on Saturday we would be finished playing and still had the rest of the night to carry on. Of coarse GROSSMANS Sunday Jam was the place to meet great blues players (still is) and watching legends like Jeff Healey pop in and play. Many connections were made and Blues magic created. LEES PALACE was also a good spot to meet blues musicians in the late 1980's, because we lived so close we would frequently attend the jam on Saturday afternoon. Our list of bars played stretches east and west to the 905 area and are too numerous to mention or even remember in some cases. We are still motivated to get out there and play any venue ( well almost any venue) that will have us.
The Band feeds off the energy of the crowd and the crowd feeds off the energy and groove of the band. It is always a potentially magical experience when All comes together.
