The Mad Yaks

The Mad Yaks

BandAmericanaAlternative

Combining the lyrical sensibilities of bands like REM and Wilco with the raw expressiveness of a Neil Young or Built to Spill, The Mad Yaks paint a sonic landscape full of dark cities, bright mountains, hope, despair, yearning, joy, and redemption.

Biography

Literate Country? What at first seems as much an oxymoron as 'Military Intelligence', The Mad Yaks prove that country roots can grow complicated and beautiful things.

Although The Mad Yaks formed in the summer of 2005, Andy, Shawn and Erin have been playing together in Colorado for more than half their lives. During this time the sound has evolved from folk to funk to rock to country and back again. With the addition of Clint Carlson on drums and Dave Drago on bass, the dynamic rhythm section has deepened and expanded The Mad Yaks Sound.

This sound is a combination of rock, country, folk, and other root music. Alternative Americana, Country Rock and Roll.

Lyrics

Monday Morning Blackout

Written By: A. Gross

Monday Morning Blackout
Wake up with the lights out
I can't see at all
Living for the weekend
Now another weekend is gone

Get up like a tombstone
Dizzy where the moon shown
Down on me last night
Pour a cup of blackness
Toast to death and taxes allright

Climb this crooked staircase
With an untied shoelace
Will it take me someplace

Monday Morning Blackout
I just want to get out
Leave this spinning wheel
How much would it cost me
Maybe they could cut me a deal

There's money in my pockets
Burning through my pockets
Where has it all gone
I just want to stop this
I'm afraid to stop for too long

Climb this crooked staircase
With an untied shoelace
Will it take me someplace

Monday Morning Blackout
I just want to get out
But I can't stand up straight
Hurrying to get there
Hurrying to get there and wait

There's money in my pockets
Burning through my pockets
Where has it all gone
I just want to stop this
I'm afraid to stop for too long

Climb this crooked staircase
With an untied shoelace
Will it take me someplace

Real Life

Written By: A. Gross

I havn’t lived
I havn’t lived yet
I’ve been sleeping
On a feather bed

29 years
Or is it 30?
I stopped counting
I’ve been counting sheep
Oh but now I can’t sleep

This world is harder than the cold steel I dreamed of
This world is smarter than the ideas I made up
This world is heavy but I feel so light
Alright, WAKE UP, Real Life

Scratch on my skin
I didn’t feel it then
But I do now
And it hurts like hell

But the pain is true
And the truth is all that really matters
It’s shining through
Yea, I’m shining through

Chorus

Good N Gone

Written By: A. Gross

Elephant silently sleeping in the corner of the room
Pretending not to notice this new sign of gloom and doom
We’ve been walking down this broken eggshell road for way too long
I’ll be good, when I’m good, Good n’ Gone

There’s a Kafka cockroach somehow made it’s way into my bed
There’s a rusty tin can whisper made it’s way inside my head
There’s a neon bar sign flashing “Something’s Wrong, Something’s Wrong”
I’ll be good, when I’m good, Good n’ Gone

CHORUS
We tried talking in over, we tried not talking at all
We tried staying stone cold sober, we tried drinking past last call
And for all this hard work trying, I’m so tired I just yawn
But I’ll be good, when I’m good, Good n’ Gone

I can see the tunnel light growing from pinprick into dime
I can hear the chug chug chugging of the Northbound Number Nine
It’s the last train out of Splitsville, it’s the train that I’ll be on
I’ll be good, when I’m good, Good n’ gone

CHORUS
Here’s the last train leavin’ Splitsville, it’s the train I’m riding on
I’ll be good, when I’m good, I’ll be fine, when I’m fine, I’ll be good when I’m good
Good n’ Gone
