The Magnetrons

The Magnetrons (band) are interested in playing your club. We are booking 2 – 4 months in advance of today. We are looking to fill calendar dates at Minneapolis venues starting mid. August 2009 to December 2009. The band will consider any Thursday – Saturday night you can make available during these months. The band behaves professionally and has a history of demonstrable integrity in clubs throughout Minneapolis. The band has the ability to provide entertainment for an entire evening (10-2AM) or can work with other acts as a portion of the total show. The band is prepared to understand all of the clubs rules and will conform to all reasonable requests.

In short, The Magnetrons are a live house/trance/jam band from Minneapolis, MN. The band expands the format established by livetronica bands such as Lotus, Particle, Pnuma Trio and local heroes the Histronic. Fans of the Magnetrons find themselves deeply connected to the band and music during the shows. And, each show gives fans unique music set to driving beats… Every show is unpredictably rad.

What makes this band exceptional is that we are the ONLY local band to be integrating what is essentially an electronic musicians (or DJ) tool called Ableton with live instrumentation. This band writes core electronic/house/trance/disco/techno music into Ableton and relies on a live DJ to orchestrate the band through a series of what we call musical “themes”. The overall effect is what sounds like a techno DJ integrating with a live jam band. Its quite a stunning achievement in that it is incumbent on each band member to not only perform at virtuoso level on their instruments.. but also concentrate on the DJ and the orchestration that is being applied through Ableton. Each show is a uniquely generated sequence of themes that is subject to change at the will of the DJ at any time during the performance. For the fans and listeners, it’s seems to be a satisfying blend of hard 4X4 house and 420 friendly jam music.

The band provides professional level gear and some stage monitoring. Also provided by the band are between 2 and 4 lighting effects and a fog machine used to create a dance club ambiance in any small to medium sized venue.

The band members are all seasoned live performance and recording musicians homed in MPLS. I have been involved in music as a semi-pro (I hold a day job) for 20 years. I’ve recorded with Freeman James and Jupiters Access at Paisley Park, spent time with Tim Mahoney (Blue Meenies) as a bass player, performed with Mike Leonard of the Bleeding Hearts (Bob Stinson’s last band) and the Red Flags as a bass player, written and performed with singer songwriter Jason Melek for 20 years. Our guitar player MMC (Mike) is the leader of the MMC Trio and performs as the trio’s singer/guitarist/songwriter. Our drummer Elliot’s second band is Blood Root Mother, a very seasoned local live act.

The Magnetrons name is well established in the local music community online. The Magnetrons have held the #1 position on Reverb Nations local electronica/dance band chart for 9 months. Additionally the band is #20 in the overall local MPLS chart.
