"Live at TT the bear's music review"

T.T. the Bear's
Cambridge, MA
November 20, 2007

Boston-based Berklee noise rockers The Make kicked off this solid night of local music with a set of brooding, epic jams. For a relatively new band, The Make boasts an impressive live show, comprised of anthemic drumming, meandering lead guitar, washy minor chords and boy-girl harmonized vocals. While lead guitarist Nick Randall's virtuosic guitar work comprises most of the band's technical prowess, The Make's ethereal vocal melodies are what tie the sound firmly together. Sounding vaguely like a cross between the late Layne Staley and the less coherent Sigur Ros vocalist Jón _ór Birgisson, the band's vocal attack is soothing enough to lull the listener to sleep yet punctuated enough to draw blood.

Bio

"I hate when bands sound the same over and over again," says band founder, Joe K. Graduating from Emerson College as audio/recording major and moving on to a job as an equipment tech at Berklee College of Music, Joe K. is responsible for the songwriting, lead vocals, keys, and rhythm guitar in the project. After struggling with his own past projects, Joe K. started the Make to satisfy his own musical cravings. With this in mind, he spent over two years searching for like-minded musicians, and in early 2007, finally found a band lineup that gels.

K. plays along with a host of varied and talented musicians, who add to the complex sound of the band. The varied backgrounds of each musician gives the Make its well-rounded sound.

Although she is a photographer with Abbott Imaging by day, Erin Yunes lends her voice to the Make, blending seamlessly because of her years of a capella singing experience. She also plays percussion in the band, and works with K. on bringing her fresh, new ideas to rock n' roll.

Edward Lee is a telanted Berklee graduate. Originally from Taiwan, Edward's low key stage presence provides the band completes Th Make's rhythm section.

Gutarist Nick Randall is a Berklee graduate who is a talented improviser and committed composer. Once a student of Buffalo, NY Music Hall of Fame Inductee Tony Scozzaro and Dave Tronzo, Nick Randall now teaches guitar to his own students.

Jack Ko is from Taiwan. He is currently a Berklee student who adds to the Make with his drum-playing talents. Influenced by John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, Ian Paice of Deep Purple, and Yukihiro of L'Arc~en~Ciel, Jack Ko is well-trained and highly dedicated, adding a polished backbeat to the band's sound.
