The Makeshift Gentlemen formed in 2006 for the sole purpose of doing something different within their home town of St. Louis, MO. They set out to do things exactly the opposite of their hipster peers, and are on the fast track to becoming one of the largest Artists in their region. Instead of whining about heartbreak and strumming broken guitar chords; the group decided to write songs using aggressive guitar and synth. riffs over fast and dirty electronic/live dance beats. It worked.
It was merely months after their inception that the band was performing in packing clubs, causing a shake in local press, and moving from a local experiment to a full blown Regional touring act. In 2007 The Makeshift Gentlemen has been seen sharing the stage with such acts as Shiny Toy Guns, Femme Fatality, So Many Dynamos, Ava, Wait!, and The Von Bondies among others. Through touring and Internet attention, The Makeshift Gentlemen has gained a strong cult following that covers the regional Midwest.
In the past few years, The Makeshift Gentlemen have gone through a heavy list of line up changes, and eventually evolved into a full 4 piece line up. The band currently features Joe Swigunski (guitar/vocals/songwriter), Jake Ferree (vocals/synths), John Henselmeier (vocals/bass guitar/programming), Louis Brown (vocals/live drums) and Alex Breuer (vocals/keys).
The Makeshift Gentlemen support their CD release with regional shows. The Makeshift Gentlemen have also played at Busch Stadium (home to the Saint Louis Cardinals), The Pageant, and Harrah's VooDoo Lounge.
