With so many "jam" bands crowding the Charleston music scene, it is sometimes difficult to know the who's-who of the phenomenon.
The Malah, however, is a new standout in a genre that has a reputation for sounding rather redundant over time. Whether you are a new admirer to the jam-rock scene, or a long-time enthusiast, The Malah creates a sound that is classic in its funk, jazz and rock elements but shows promising new ground with its cerebral mix of hip-hop and electronica.
- Post & Courier: Matthew Godbey

Cranking out a bleepy, syncopated mix of electro-rock grooves, Greenville-based quartet The Malah regularly hits Charleston's club scene with a modern "jam" sound. Originally formed by guitarist Brandon Maynard, bassist Elliott Vaughn, and drummer Seth Fankhauser, the band recently welcomed percussionist Andrew Perkins to the lineup, expanding further on their Southern-tinged, funk-filled, rhythm-heavy foundation. - Charleston City Paper - T. Ballard Lesemann

The Joint is the place to go for live music in Clemson, and this week they present two up-and-coming local acts for your listening pleasure. Acoustic tinged alt-rock band Marlons Way headlines the Joint's stage Friday night. They just celebrated the release of their full-length CD, and are hoping to take their music to the masses. Saturday, loop-driven jam band The Malah will get the kids on the floor shaking their hips. With a trippy mix of jam-band improv and electronics that puts them in league with Perpetual Groove, they definitely stand out in the crowded jam scene.

- The Beat - JAMES NICHOLS

"If there was a party in the middle of the forest, with twinkling, colored lights; shoeless, mushroom-happy attendants; and flittering fairies instead of cage dancers, we're pretty sure The Malah would be playing! Which makes World Grotto the perfect urban-host for this South Carolina-based crew!" - Leah E. Willis - Metro Pulse - Knoxville, TN

"Greenville SC’s The Malah are carrying the torch of electronic rock forward. Atmospheric, soulful compositions showcase the band’s songwriting talents on Voyage of Radiowaves. The Malah’s brand of rock fuses funk and soul side by side with drum-n-bass and tribal rhythms in an electronic conglomerate that feeds the
listeners’ desire for something out of the ordinary. "
- Macro-Management & Publicity’s Frank Bloom

“Greenville, South Carolina doesn't have much in
the way of a musical reputation, save being the point of departure for the ill-fated flight that took the lives of Lynard Skynard's Ronnie Van Zandt and Steve and Cassie Gaines in 1977. But these days, the Malah is creating a buzz that far exceeds what one would expect from music in the Palmetto State. Formed in 2003, the trio has taken a roots-music approach to organic electronic music, offering
adventurous flights amid shifting atmospheres and a robust,
uncompromising tone that breathes with ever-emerging candor.”
- Hittin’ the Note’s Jamie Lee

“In the same way practitioners of Sacred Geometry sculpt
seemingly abstract forms that resonate, somehow, with the viewer, The Malah has created a collection of songs, most seemingly
abstract and overflowing with improvisational risk, that resonate with the listener. So I suppose there is some hope for the jam world. What counts is that music reaches the listener, that it's made honestly and that it can move you in whatever way you see fit to be moved. The Malah does all of the above for me and, just for a
minute, makes me less of a cranky old bastard. For that we should thank them.”
- Review from Kyndmuisc.com’s Dave Terpeny

The Malah are a Greenville, South Carolina-based trio who have been captivating ears with malahdic electro grooves since December 2003. In an over-saturated "jam" market, the band are making their mark with finely-structured tunes that remain fluid and open to interpretation. By mixing rich, earthy atmospheres with electrifying rhythms, the Malah explore the meeting point of cutting-edge technology and ancient musical theory. Every song has a story to tell and unravels itself throughout the listening experience. The music is always evolving and is impossible to pin down under a label or genre. The Malah are very excited to release their 2nd studio album: Sound Spectrum. A live performance captured in a studio setting, Sound Spectrum combines the energy and funk of a concert with the precision recording techniques available only in a closed, private environment. The Malah continue to share the wealth of the love for music with anyone who is willing to recieve it. Be on the look out for The Malah as they journey to every corner of the planet with hopes of creating music for the entire human race. We hope to see you on the dance floor!
