Local rock band The Manhattan Plot has had a good start in their musical life. Their first CD Youth was produced/mastered by Ryan Morey, who has previously worked with The Arcade Fire. When you listen you can understand why they selected Morey for their all important debut album. The 12 tracks on Youth, which is a concept album, will remind you of rock music that was produced in the 90s by the likes of Collective Soul, Bush and U2. Though to be fair, the band is not trying to bring back 90s rock as they have updated the sound to mesh with 2012’s sensibilities. The lyrical content concerns itself with the events that we all went through during our teenage years. It was a time we discovered music we loved and fell in love for the first time. Ah, the good old times. The first single and video released off the album was Vessel. It starts off mellow with a simple chord progression, piano and nice vocal harmonies and then comes in two-thirds of the way in with crunching guitar and pounding drums. A solid debut that will be of interest to rock fans. - Orcasound

Everywhere there’s music talent. From the big cities to the uncivilized jungles, you can find this. Sure, depending on the person and the culture, but mainly in the individual and how polished this be, the music delivered is more incredible and awesome. That’s certainly something that it can’t be denied, no matters if it’s a simple musician or some kind of prodigy.

Recalling bands like U2, Bush and Collective Soul, The Manhattan Plot is awesome and a proof of it is their latest album, Youth. Coming all the way from Quebec, Canada, it’s filled with brilliant and catchy sounds in each of their songs that appeals to pretty much everyone. Lyrics that the listener can identify with, especially the youth, it’s some kind of diary from today’s teenagers.

4.9/5 - Vents Magazine

The Manhattan Plot is a rock band currently based in Montreal, Canada. Their debut Album “Youth” was self-produced and mastered by Ryan Morey who did “Funeral” by “The Arcade Fire”.

Their sound has been compared to “Bush”, “U2”, “Collective Soul” and “Coldplay”. The band site their roots as a combination of the 90’s rock listed above with cinematic orchestrated bands like “Sigur Ros”.

“Youth” is a concept driven album, both dedicated to and exploring teenage years spent entrenched in basements and garages, surrounded by first bands and first loves, longing for greatness. Nowhere is this more evident than in the album’s underlying lyrical themes, summed up by the first verse of the track “Youth”:-

“There was something in my youth, I’ve seen it fade away through a reminiscent twilight of smiling silhouettes. Engrained upon my eyes like a brilliant masquerade, echoed friendships voice thoughts of innocence.” - TalentHED Magazine
