"The Roots Rising Down Remix Contest Winner"

Back in October, Okayplayer and on-line community for producers, Indaba Music, launched a healthy remix contest using stems from two tracks off The Roots' Rising Down album. Round 1 called for remixes of the song "Criminal" and yielded 25 winners. Round 2 asked those 25 to remix the song "I Can't Help It." The results have been tallied, and a winner (and honorable mentions) determined. Congratulations to Philadelphia's own Static Pro (known now as The Maniac All-Stars), who's intricate remix won for "best over-all." Read his description (it's funny) and listen to the remix here . Also be sure to check out remixes by AmIAm, gabe, noel, and The Twinsbee, who all impressed us. Thank you to all who participated, it is refreshing to hear how much talent there is out there. Static Pro will now have an opportunity to record an original song with members of The Roots and special guests. Each of the finalists will also receive an autographed copy of Rising Down (thanks ?uesto).

Bio

They say it was impossible rockers, ravers, hip-hop junkies, and sample-slayers living together peacefully. Psy-Trance and Hip Hop,
they’re light-years apart. Rock, Breakbeat, DnB, and Dub-Step, it just can’t happen...

When these worlds collide, you get The Maniac All-Stars.

Imagine two brothers born and raised in the most dangerous city in America, mentored by Questlove of the Roots, and Electronic Rock pioneer Celldweller. The aftermath can't be defined as anything but "Maniacal." The conclusion is the perfect blend of organic and synthetic audio attitude in it purest form.

Maniac is defined as a person who has an excessive enthusiasm or
desire – “We are music Maniacs!” The Maniac All-Stars are the
collaborative efforts of two brothers Antonio "DJ Satisfaction (SAT)"
and Dennis “Mcfly” Gonzalez formed in 2007 as one of the internet's
leading remix duos. The independent production duo have placed, if not won, in every remix contest they have entered since their formation. Some of their wins include Vh1’s The Score, The Roots Remix competition, The Celldweller Remix Contest, and Remix Magazine's Camp Bisco Remix Contest. “We give everything we have when it comes to a remix opportunity and performing...It's our Lifeline,” Mcfly stated about their dedication to their craft, “The nature of remixing really allows us to set fire to the rule book and do our own thing.”

Many performers struggle to establish their musical niche, laboriously trying on different musical styles like selecting an outfit for a
Saturday night dance party. But there are others that seamlessly blend genres, in full command of their craft, style, and music. The Maniac All-Stars fit firmly in the latter category. Their highly anticipated sound is a captivating and innovative concoction that
shatters genre boundaries while striking senses with incessant hooks. The Maniac All-Stars epic electronic rock anthems and
futuristic grooves take listeners on an audio voyage that only the
brothers can execute.

In 2009, The Maniac All-Stars added singer/song writer and childhood
friend Jeff Epoch to the line up along with MCs B.O.P. and Figure of Speech and a rotating assortment of live musicians. They have
since evolved into a live electronic group covering an assortment of styles and gracing the stages of Festivals, such as Camp Bisco and The BIG UP, while still staying true to their "Roots" with underground rave DJ sets. “Being an electronic rock group gives us the best of both worlds when promoting and connecting with fans” added DJ Satisfaction, “We can remix, DJ, or rock out on stage!”

The Maniac All-Stars are currently in the studio recording their debut
album, DJing premier events, and remixing for some the music industries most respected artists.
