The Maquis

Dan (formerly of The John Charles Band) branched from his former group to take on his own solo project. In the summer of 2008, he met Mark and Dave, and the group began arranging many songs that Dan had already written for the project. In Jan. 2009, James (formerly of Televangelist and the Architect) joined, solidifying the group. The foursome has been actively writing, practicing and recording ever since. Influenced by outlaw country writers such as Jerry Jeff Walker, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson, songwriting is focused on simplicity, honesty, and melody. However, song arrangement and performance is heavily influenced by indie rockers like built to spill, pavement, and spoon. Combining these approaches leaves a product enjoyable on many levels, whether its listening closely to the lyrics, enjoying singing or humming the melody, or rocking along with the band's performance intensity.
