"Campus Circle"

"The Marietta James, a fresh new band that produces an exciting blend of country, folk and alternative rock, currently features singer-songwriter/acoustic guitarist Jason Emery, percussionist Jeff Fuller and violinist Mishkar Nunez-Mejia. Fuller and Emery’s southern roots contribute greatly to The Marietta James' fresh feel".

"The soothing, introspective “We Are Not Friends” highlights Emery’s stunning vocals. “Safe Bets,” though catchy, still sounds too intelligently offbeat for anyone to consider it “commercial.” “The Ashes of October,” a great country-influenced tune, showcases Emery’s wide vocal range." - Brenda Goldstein

"The Cat Club (Los Angeles)"

"Well written classic songs played by really solid musicians. Lovely melodies in the best Dylan, Neil Young, Gram Parsons tradition. What more could one Englishman ask for? That's why I gave them a residency for two years!" - Ian Webber - booker

"The Echo (Los Angeles)"

"The first time I saw this band, they blew me away! They continue to excite me and every new listener is in for a treat!" - Kim Grant and The Happy Bookers

"Knitting Factory | Hollywood + Brooklyn"

"In a city filled with singers, songwriters, and bands that want to be the next big thing, The Marietta James stand out as one of the only truly unique, inspiring and honest acts out there." - Chris Diaz - Entertainment-Talent Buyer

"Farwest Almanac Sept./Oct. 2009"

"Their distortion of traditional country, folk and rock reverberated with the captivated crowd and indeed they rocked us, causing our hips to twist and the chandeliers to shake." - Boozin' Susan

Bio

If you cross the lyrical honesty and relatable storytelling of Bob Dylan, the soulful sentimentality of Neko Case, the foot-stomping groove of The Band, and an eclectic musical style along the lines of Wilco, you get The Marietta James. Jason Emery (vocals, guitars) and Jeff Fuller (drums, percussion), who previously played together in bands based out of Atlanta, GA, formed the roots of the group. Over time, their indie-rock style of music underwent a metamorphosis as the band naturally gravitated towards staying true to their southern, folk and Americana roots, thus, The Marietta James were born. In 2005 the band made the move out west to Los Angeles, their present home base, where they added Drew Jorgensen (bass), Mishkar Nunez (violin, keys) and Zeahna Young (vocals, guitar, flute, melodica) to the mix to complete the lineup. The Marietta James released their first EP in December 2009, and are currently working on their first full length album due out in 2011. They are also successfully composing music for television commercials, and have just played the 2010 Topanga Days Festival and Santa Barbara's “Musical Café” on Cox Cable Channel 17, as well as numerous Los Angeles venues including The Echo, The Echoplex, Silverlake Lounge, The Derby, The Mint, The Gig, The Knitting Factory, Molly Malone’s, The Bordello, Cinema Bar, Spaceland, The Redwood Bar and The Cat Club on the Sunset Strip (two year residency held at this venue).
