The Mathematics

Established in the late summer of 1999, The Mathematics is the prodigal musical brainchild of frontman and king of neolounge R&B punk, Duke Fame, and his sensitive quarter-Jew sidekick Seven Arizona-Black. Black and Fame had spent the late 1990’s unleashing serious punk power throughout the upper Northwest with their band, The Cuckoos.
Soon after the release of The Cuckoos’ debut album, Praise God and Pass the Ammunition, the band parted ways and Fame and Black headed back to Manhattan, Kansas to further their original musical vision with the idea of creating a band that is as conceptually diverse as it is hip-shakingly rhythmic.

The two began by adding long-time friend and band mate Professor Fine (who is fine) and drummer Sara Harvey. They immediately began writing new material and performing regionally for nearly two years until Harvey decided to begin breeding young Mathematics of her own. Most recently the band has added drummer Hope McMickle and guitarist/keyboardist Ramrod, and released a live full-length album, Roger and Hammerstein’s The Mathematics.

Individually and collectively The Mathematics boast a varied and extensive musical pedigree. As individuals they have vast experience touring, recording, and creating original compositions. Members of The Mathematics have also had the opportunity to perform with a wide range of notable musicians and acts including Truly, Jerry Cantrell, Helios Creed, Hammerbox, Built to Spill, Queens of the Stone Age, Pigeonhed, Nashville Pussy, Guided by Voices, Adrian Belew, and Duff McKeegan, among others.

Currently, The Mathematics, are honing their live performance, building a strong fan base, and have a follow-up album in pre-production, in addition to working on several independent film projects. The Mathematics offer both a raging, full-on rock set as well as a politically correct, semi-unplugged lounge set guaranteed to please. And that’s fine.
