The Matter of Minutes

The Matter of Minutes

BandAlternativeAvant-garde

Female-fronted dynamic rock with hints of folk, electronic and country with detailed music, vocal hooks and a meaningful message. Imagine if Bjork, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, The Postal Service and Wilco all got together and made a cake, The Matter of Minutes would be the frosting.

Biography

The Matter of Minutes began as the sibling duo of Chris and Jessika Carmichael. Their father, a lifelong musician and hit song-writer for a major publishing company, introduced them to music before they could even walk. With the kind of connection only siblings can have, it was inevitable that they make music together. They started making their own recordings in their home studio in February of 2006 at first for fun and not expecting anything to come of them. The recordings soon caught the attention of long-time friends and musicians Jason Kniep, Mitch Wilde and Paul Bauer who all showed interest in collaborating and creating a band.

Jess, Chris, Mitch and Jason traveled out to Chicago in January 2007 where Paul was living at the time to practice for the first time. Everything came together more perfectly than any of them could have imagined and they soon discovered they had their own sound and potential for greatness even after one rehearsal.

Another trip to Chicago was enough to get some songs down for recording and the group endeavored on the creation of a short E.P. entitled "First Versions" which are just the that, the early yet cohesive stages of a few songs that they could get to the public ear.

Several shows sprouted a surprisingly large following considering the group had only been together for a few months. With a resolute direction and clear goals set in place nothing is going to stop them from introducing unique, detailed, melody-driven, catchy and above all, meaningful music into a wayward music scene.
