The May Birds

We are Alice, Ella, Camilla and Charlotte - The May Birds. We have been playing together for a year and a half, having originally started out as a guitar/singer duo. Whilst we enjoyed the simplicity of this arrangement, we wanted to introduce other textures and voices, hence the addition of, firstly, a pianist and finally, a cellist. We feel that the combination of instruments is very unique in the sense that it does not pigeon-hole us into a specific genre. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are just as much at home playing unplugged in the drawing room of a private members' club as on a festival stage, secure in the knowledge that our songs tell stories and take the listeners on journeys, regardless of the scale of the performance. Drawing on influences from the world of Folk, Rock, Soul as well as Classical music, we feel that there is a real gap in the market for the music that we produce. Having spent the last year playing around the UK; at Great Escape Festival and Beautiful Days Festival, supporting Jesca Hoop in Brighton and Sea of Bees in London and securing a residency at Blacks Club in Soho, we finished 2011 with work on our forthcoming single 'Inside Out' with producer Tim Bidwell. 'Inside Out' is being released on January 30th 2012 through our own label, Aviary Records and assisted by Republic of Music.
