If AC/DC and Motley Crue had a love child, The MDC would be it. The MDC are bringing rock back, and their first EP Heartbreaker! shows off the young band’s musical versatility and penchant for old school, bluesy rock tunes.
From blistering first track That Girl’s For Me to last track and aptly named The Bitter End, MDC will take listeners on a rollercoaster of awesome. These five Perth boys have managed to get all the elements of a perfect rock album into five tunes: from the sexy album art, to the subject matter (girls, sex, beer), to the heavy rambunctious blues riffs and forceful vocals. Title track Heartbreaker is a beast of a tune. A sarcastically screamed ode to trashtastic Ke$ha has frontman Stag screaming “But the party don’t start ‘til I walk in,” followed by a hardcore breakdown, mad solo and catchy chorus.
The MDC are sticking it to the generic hipsters that are dominating our mainstream by manning the fuck up and playing some real music. Heartbreaker lyrics sum up the aim of the album: “What happened to rock’n’roll?.” Well, The MDC did. This EP will satisfy musical cravings that you didn’t even realise you had.

Part of the fun of witnessing The MDC is guessing what MDC might stand for, Massive Drum Crash? Multiple Drug Convictions? Regardless, The MDC will never suffer an identity crisis. They're a no prisoners rock troupe. Volume is their friend; big hooks a trusty colleague; tact subtly and possibly sobriety all distant strangers. Formed at the end of 2010, The MDC started out as any other local Perth band does. But with a strong work ethic the debut EP Heartbreaker! was released late in 2011 after the success of the debut single ’Mr Sugar’ earlier that year.
2012 saw The MDC capitalise on the excellent reviews the Heartbreaker! EP was gaining from local & national press, and significantly increased their live following. The live show was fast becoming the most talked-about aspect of the band, with the energy, passion & general mayhem quite unlike the average local show in a city that is packed to the brim with up & coming bands.
Again a tribute to their constant work ethic, The MDC released their first official video clip for the track ‘Burn’, the second single to be lifted from the Heartbreaker! EP. The launch show in support of the video release turned into one of the highlights of the year for the band, fully selling out The Rocket Room in Northbridge for the second time. (The first being the launch show of the Heartbreaker! EP the previous year) All the while the video itself began to gather online views & generate further gig opportunities which The MDC grasped with both hands, playing show after show & further enhancing their reputation among not only the local live scene, but amongst fellow bands & musicians who had heard through the grape vine that The MDC was one to watch.
The end of 2012 saw The MDC take a break from playing as many shows to focus on writing & recording, eventually heading into the studio with Callum Barter (British India, Big Scary) to begin work on the next EP.
