Biography

Melissa is an American singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. Melissa was born and raised in the mountains of Kentucky and was singing in church and at local festivals by the age of 9. After few years of performing everywhere she could, Melissa was able to pay for all her own equipment from the earnings she made through gigs and talent contest winnings.

Melissa got involved in the Miss America Scholarship Pageant Organization while she was still in high school. After being crowned Miss Central Kentucky and Miss Mountain Pride, she was able to win enough scholarship money to get some college under her belt. But her dreams lived beyond the college campuses. She longed for the stage and wanted to further pursue music. After hearing about the live music scene in Texas, she made the move down south.

A couple of bands later and some catchy original songs, and Melissa has garnered some local success. But after a few years and only a handful of regional gigs, she wanted something more. "LA is where it's at!" she heard from a friend, and made the ultimate leap of faith to California.

A lot of spunk and a little bit of luck landed Melissa an indie record/publishing deal. Her EP "listen." was released in October 2012 and has currently worldwide distribution through iTunes, Amazon and many others.

After not renewing with the record label, Melissa is back on the hustle! She has continued writing and is ready to perform for your audience! She has delivered, time and again, show-stopping performances to sold out crowds! Ask anyone and they will tell you that not only can Melissa sing, she can entertain! From a soulful ballad to an uptempo dance tune, Melissa can really bring it home!

Lyrics

The Hard Way

Written By: Melissa Collins

I see you walking ‘round your head is hanging down
I’ve been where you are today
I’m here to tell you friend, this is not the end
Even the strongest of hearts will break

There will be those days that feeling won’t go away
You might need someone to talk to
Call me anytime, baby we can talk all night
You know I’ll always be here for you

CHORUS
Some things you learn the hard way
When love has no mercy on you
Just keep your eye on the sky
You’ve got friends that will pull you through

Sometimes the rain will fall, the sun won’t shine at all
Just keep moving on from here
It’s out of your hands, there’s a better plan
Love will come again, don’t you fear

There are hills and mountains left to climb
You’ve just got to learn how
To get on with your life, yeah….

REPEAT CHORUS

Don't Give Up

Written By: Melissa Collins

Don’t give up on me
Don’t give in to what you can’t see
I’m right here begging for mercy
Don’t give up on me

Hangin’ on day after day
This feeling won’t go away
I wish I was the one
I don’t know where we went astray

Don’t give up on me
Don’t give in to what you can’t see
I’m right here begging for mercy
Don’t give up on me

Baby if you only knew
How I feel deep inside
Don’t ya think we can give it
Give it one more try

Don’t give up on me
Don’t give in to what you can’t see
I’m right here begging for mercy
Don’t give up on me

What Would You Do

Written By: Melissa Collins

What do you do when you get news like that?
Given life everything you have

What do you do when you get news like that?
Given life everything you have

Pick up the pieces
Of what’s left behind
Try to make sense
Of all this noise in my mind
Storm before the calm
Caught between two worlds

Once upon a time, I thought I had it all
Never imagined, that I could ever fall
Feel alone and so empty
Look up to the stars to find a way to guide me

What do you do
When you get news like that?
When you’ve given life
Everything you have
Seems to soon
For this day to come
Pick up the pieces
Of what’s left behind
Try to make sense
Of all this noise in my mind
Storm before the calm
Caught between two worlds
What do you do
When you get news like that?

All Along

Written By: Melissa Collins

When I was born
I didn’t have a real home
I survived on a coal bank
In a little house
Crying and alone

Cradle cap sittin’ on a fat man’s lap
But there was a greater plan for me
All along…

Months went by, how time flies
He didn’t know
She was flying high all the time
Didn’t want to know me

She tried to sell me in a basement, don’t you see
But there was a greater plan for me
All along…

There was an Angel, who looked like a flower
With a smile
Took me in, cleaned me up
And set me free

And there was love, lots of love
There was a greater plan for me
All along…

Now I sing my song to you
Pour my heart out for you

Set me free, set you free
There was a greater plan for me…

Keep the Dream Alive

Written By: Melissa Collins

GOTTA KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE
CARRY ON TO SAVE OUR LIVES
GOTTA MAKE A WAY THE BEST WE CAN
WE’RE ALL PART OF A BIGGER PLAN

6,000 miles
Still a long way to go
I chose the road not for the weak

I refuse
To give up this time
Take my hand believe in me

When you stare
Into the eyes of fear
Don’t back down, don’t back down

GOTTA KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE
GOTTA KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE
GOTTA KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE (X2 all three lines)

GOTTA KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE
GOTTA KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE

GOTTA KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE
GOTTA KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE

KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE (oh, yeah)
KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE
I REFUSE TO GIVE UP
KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE
