"I saw the Mellotones play at the Nova Scotia Music Festival in Yarmouth early November 2010. They were incredibly tight with a thoughtfull, very musical, joyful and challenging reportoire. As well as bringing in all the right notes and beats (of course), they did the most important thing and brought the funk.
I've seen a lot of funk bands in my time, being myself based in London and having played in a semi-pro funk band (London Jazz Festival, Support for Incognito)and the Mellotones really stand out with the amazing range of musical virtuosity within the group coupled with the rare feat of having a large number of individual musicians within the group who have amazing vocal skills, who could, and do, front bands as vocalists in their own right. A lot of great funk bands just can't pull off the feat of having such a great store of vocal power - and this is something that stood out for me.
They were also generous enough to allow me to join them on bass for a few songs, and were generous enough to let me get on and off before my limited bass licks, and their patience, ran out!"

After having played over ten years of steady weekly gigs in clubs in Halifax, the Mellotones have devoted fans, both young and old. The band give the people what they want; and they want to dance! They are a tight ensemble with top-notch vocals and powerful horns backed by solid funky grooves.
From playing sweaty late night dance floors in clubs to weddings, corporate engagements, special events and festivals, in any situation, the Mellotones deliver a 9 piece, high energy show of R&B favorites from classic Motown, Stax, Funk, James Brown, disco and everything in between. The Mellotones play and live music full time as performers and educators.
The Mellotones are among some of the most skillful and in-demand musicians in the region. Meet the Halifax Funk Legends! With the talented Jeff Mosher on vocals who doubles on saxophone he’s joined by a superb horn section featuring Jody Lyne on trumpet, Eric Landry with the trombone and Rob Crowell playing lead saxophone. The band’s rhythm section reads like a who’s who list of the best in town featuring includes Lil Thomas and Brad Conrad on guitars, Ian Mosher on keyboards, Mike Farrington Jr, on bass and Damien Moynihan on drums. The musicians represent years of playing, touring and recording with bands and backing up ECMA and Juno award winning artists. The lineup has inevitably changed over the years but the band has always drawn on the wealth of talented players in the region, especially those with a love of funk music.
Bringing tight harmonies, powerful horns and a funky rhythm section, the ‘Tones energetic stage show keeps the party going. Performing so regularly, the band has a camaraderie and a tightness that crowds cannot deny. Recently, they have expanded their audiences through festivals and special events from the east coast through central Canada and have experienced some memorable sit-ins with David Foster, Nathan East, Dan Akroyd and Dennis Rodman! The Mellotones love bringing fans to the dance floor in the tradition of Halifax R&B.
