Bio

It all stared back in 2000 after Melodie graduated from high school and she had the choice of either going to college or starting in the band, the choice was easy for her to make. Melodie and her dad, Mike, formed The Melody Makers as an acoustic act and everything was moving along smoothy but then we realized that in order to really show off Melodies vocal range and talent we needed to go electric and the rest is history. We have been playing in Des Moines and surrounding areas for 6 years now. It's been a long road trying to find the right people to make this band, and now that dream is becoming a reality. We decided to change the name to The Melodie Proffitt Band last year to highlight Melodie as the lead.
Melodie's vocals are influenced by Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, Jewel, Tracy Chapman, and Bonnie Raitt. As for music it's all about the classics as well as the new; Bob Marley, Led Zepplin, Aretha Franklin, Black Crowes, Widespread Panic, Yonder Mountain and many more.
Mike Proffitt has been playing music since the 60's, a true musician. He has used music as a way for him to overcome his hard times and to enjoy the good times. As Melodies father the relationship makes the music that much better because you can really feel and see the love.
Tom Breneman has been playing the drums since he was a young child, and started playing in a band at the age of 14. He used to have drum battles with his brother, they would set their drums up so that they were facing and just jam on the drums. Tom enjoys life and enjoys playing music, you can see all of his enthusiasm when he plays.
Doug Trammel is our newest addition to the band. As a guitar player he is methodical about how he plays, he wants his sound to be perfect and it shows. He plays with 2 amps to make a stereo sound it makes the sound pan around the stage and makes it that much better. He is an awesome addition to our band and he carries himself with such a positive attitude that it makes everyone comfortable.
All in all our band is about having a good time and about good music. We want to please everyone so we make it happen with our wide variety of songs.
