The Memories

The Memories

BandPopRock

Moody pop. Sometimes it's a good mood, sometimes it's a bad mood, but it's always moody...

Biography

Ahhh, how to describe The Memories... Music that makes you think about where it all went wrong and how to make it right?

"Maybe," offers Sameer with a knowing smirk.

Music that makes you feel the power of the best of times but first demands that you revisit the worst of times?

I'm "getting warmer," and said smirk is suddenly nowhere to be found.

Close as I am, I'm an outsider and I'm here for an inside opinion so it's time to ask the man himself. So Sameer, how would you describe The Memories?

"Avante-garde latin jazz except with structure and minus the latin jazz bits."

The smirk returns. Love it. (When all else fails, let the singer do the talking...)

The Memories make pop music with hooks and are not apologetic in doing so. The best bits of the best songs of the last 60 years...and personality to boot! Hop on board while there's still room...

Lyrics

Radio Brown Brown

Written By: Sameer Tolani

i was born for makin' history
was wading in the swamp
'til true love came along

sailed the seas
i sailed the seven seas
the people don't look much like me
but the soldiers sure do
who knew

it was on the day before the war
the general came to speak
ich bin ein african

heard him shout
this war was up to me
this war was up to me
now i can die in peace-es

left my post for fields of marigolds
the rain burns up my lips
and swooshes 'round my boat

heard him shout
this war is up to us
this war is up to us
i'm here to serve a cunt-ry

radio brown brown
ends in freetown

do ya 'love love love' me now
like ya 'love love loved' me then
do ya 'love love love' me now
like ya 'love love loved' me then

i was out and about
you followed in my footsteps
but youse a mean might-have-been
i wonder why that is

if you're not careful, brace yourself, i might just clear my throat
bet you're not gonna get very far
i wonder why that is
why don't you tell me baby why that is

do ya 'love love love' me now
like ya 'love love loved' me then
do ya 'love love love' me now
like ya 'love love loved' me then

do ya love, love me now
like ya love, loved me then
something's wrong, i can't go on...

i seen what you're made of
but this ain't about love...

if you're not careful, brace yourself, i might just get my coat
you're always on the phone phoning home

no i ain't gonna stay for long
got to go, something's wrong...

i seen what you're made of
but this ain't about love...

she said, "there's so many things i will miss
but how can i think when there's mud all over this
take your dirty boots off of my floor
i've seen better days, but i'll see more..."

Scraps of Heaps

Written By: Sameer Tolani

[we do it a bit differently now so these won't exactly match up to the demo version...]

go home and bury it
half o' your clothes are worn out and torn to shreds
and food is real sparse 'round here where the spiders live
and all o' your friends are gone
all o' your friends are gone

child spies a mystery
i left a word in my throat by the side of the road
at the top of the lady's house where the spider sleeps
i left a word in my throat
i left a word in my throat

missed my stop cos i was dreaming of escape
i was dreaming of escape
when i got off, i was bitten by a snake
i was smitten by a snake

Standby

[we do it a bit differently now so these won't exactly match up to the demo version...]

and i'll always be good
and i'll always do
but the one day i don't
d'ya throw me a bone?

and maybe, just maybe...

there's food on your plate
a roof on your head awaits
but the one day it's gone
i'll do you no wrong

and maybe one day we'll see the sun

if the waters don't calm
let the river rage on and on
father time, he will waste yours and mine
if the world won't, i will

and maybe one day we'll see the sun

if you stand by me, i'll stand by you
and maybe, just maybe...
