Bio
Formed in Spring of 2011, The Merrylees are recognised as a contender for the Scottish band to rise above the rest in 2012. A whirlwind of just under a year has seen the band play a sold out show at King Tuts, the Pretty Green store in Glasgow and Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh alongside acts such as Noel Gallagher's tour support Folks, The Dykeenies, Nick Mercer and The Law.
The Merrylees take influence from a diversity of acts from the 1950's to the present day. The band site the likes of Captain Beefheart, The Byrds, The La's and Bert Jansch as major influences on their sound which has been described by Calais Brown (ex-Felsons) as "a harmonious psychedelic country western jangle!".
Their debut EP was launched to a sell-out crowd in Edinburgh's Voodoo Rooms at the tail end of last year to the praise of the Edinburgh Evening News. The coming months will see them play the Camden Crawl and head out on their first British tour.
"The Merrylees’ engaging blend of country & western and hallucinogenic riffery follows a fine heritage of 60s and 70s influences. The songs are fleet-footed affairs, all skiffling percussion and deftly handled melodies. The Merrylees might have a record worth watching out for if their Facebook snippets are anything to go by"
