"American Radio Review"

"I put the Merry Warners song ("Lost") on the player on the frontpage @ www.xcradio.com, and have received a crapload of email, telling me, that once again, our Northern neighbors are finding ways to dominate college/indie radio. And we love having the opportunity to bring to America, The Merry Warners."

"An Evening at the Cameron House"

The Merry Warners kicked things up a notch at the Cameron House with their folksy grunge pop, alternating between softer folk tunes and heavy riff rockers. Included in their set were tributes to the Beatles and guitar wanking, along with tunes about Zac Efron and the monkey from the GAP commercials, as explained to the audience between each track. - Too Hight to Get it Right

"I Like Pinecones..."

"I will admit that I know nothing about music, but I feel certain that the Merry warners are going to be the biggest thing to happen to rock n' roll since Elvis set his piano on fire at Woodstock..." - Darryl

"Flower Power Returns..."

It turned into throwback night at the Horseshoe last Thursday when the Merry Warners took the stage. Their set began with a hypnotic psych-rock, even a bit of early 70's prog and then swung into the Summer Of Love with some late 60's folk. One way or the other, the Merry Warners proved that soul enhancing flower power still lives on! - Exclaim!

"Indie Love..."

“With haunting, sweeping melodies reminiscent of the Jesus and Mary Chain, wrapped up with the folk sensibility and sentimentality of Sarah Harmer, the Merry Warners insert a fresh new sound into the very heart of Canadian music. They refuse to commit to a single genre, and a fearless passion comes through in every single song.

If there is any justice, the Merry Warners will be a household name in the near future.”

"The Weather Music Revolution is Here!"

The Merry Warners are into something underground and new and they’re into it deeply. With political awareness couched in personal tales, the Merry Warners are the epitome of weather music and they might just be the best unknown band in the Toronto Indie Scene right now.

The Merry Warners?

If you’d heard of the Merry Warners before 2010 then you were either from Toronto or out at your local dive one night when something weird rolled onstage.

It’s not weird, it’s weather…

Established within the bawdy taverns and large halls of Canada’s unofficial capital city, the Merry Warners have emerged as one of the must see acts from a Toronto music scene bursting with talent. Still, when a band is eclectic enough to be compared to Lou Reed, MGMT and Broken Social Scene in the same breath it can be tempting to write them off as another bunch of guitar wanking goofs fumbling blindly through the miasma of the music world.

But lead singer/songwriter Cory Lee has another explanation, “People always ask what type of music we play and I explain to them that living up north we are at the mercy of the seasons, and the songs we write are totally influenced by the constant change in weather. For instance the songs are often moody and psychedelic in the winter, fun and hard rocking in the summer. So instead of pinning us down to one genre I tell people, this is ‘weather music.’”

The term also calls to mind the Weathermen and the radical politics of 60’s bands like the MC5. And although Lee denies being a radical, there is an undeniably rebellious spirit burning through all of the Merry Warners songs.

Look Out Mississauga, Here Come the Merry Warners!

The band is currently riding a hot streak. Their second full-length record Go Down is scheduled for release on April 20th, 2010 and they are embarking on a spring and summer touring schedule sure to break them out of the loyal city market they have been serving for so long. With an evolving stage show that now includes a dedicated cadre of cheerleaders jumping on stage and taking their turn at the mic, and a growing legion of fans chanting the bands new song the Money-I-O, they look ready to explode!

We’ve finally outgrown the city and we’re ready to take weather music out to the world! says Lee. “Of course we’re totally poverty stricken so we may only make it as far as Mississauga”

Money problems aside, the Merry Warners have arrived and these boys seem set to have a very merry summer!
