Bio

City Drop is the second independent release from Seattle based band, The Midget. Working once again with sonic ally Dave Fridmann (MGMT, Flaming Lips), The Midget have distilled their sound by moving in a beat driven, synth heavy direction. Engaging electronic arrangements, atmospheric guitars, and gauzy female vocals form the foundation for an 18 minute sonic treatise on modern day life.
City Drop coalesced around themes explored in Alvin Toffler’s Future Shock - symptoms of accelerated living, the concept of home, human interaction with urban landscapes, the city and its many systems. While mining personal history The Midget synthesize their surroundings. Subway sounds, ocean drone and the pulse of ambient city hum are refracted via hypnotic drum beats, analogue filters and hook laden melodies.
The Midget recorded and produced City Drop in their home studio, subsisting on a steady diet of Sparks, Giorgio Moroder, Serge Gainsbourg, Dub and French Synth Wave. Collaborations with artists of similar temperament and vision heavily informed the process. The Midget worked with L.A. based painter Tomory Dodge on the title track, while video and film producer Shane Francis supplies videos and live performance visuals to provide for an extrasensory experience.
City Drop was released on 1-11-2011 in a limited edition of 500 hand printed covers, and digitally via TuneCore.
