in Montreal to do circus-building and music for film. Joel Mason is
from St. Paul, Joel Gorrie from Regina, Saskatchewan. We like to find
things, explore, explain (or unexplain) melodies, societies, structures.
Like in detective stories, there is a story underneath the official
account, a weirder, sweeter song beneath obvious pop gongs. So we
posture, hyperbolically, as unauthorized scientists, unhireable
detectives, an Archive, a Monstrosity, two people trying to creatively
refuse the normal ways of living a musical life.
Our specialty is experimental shows, such as:
-our Shadow Show, where the audience is given tools to produce their own visual effects;
-
our Video Show, where projected vignettes are lifted from pop-culture
and made strange--cut-off, put in the wrong order--mashed with the
music’s tension and melodic release, the audience’s interpretation;
-our Circus Embryo Show, where we improvise musically with 1-2 acrobats on a small stage.
We released a new EP, “Horsebird,” on the 17th of July, 2014. It was engineered
by Zachari Smith, mixed by Alex Oana (Romantica, Kid Dakota), and
mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins). Album
artwork by Matt Frise (mattfrise.com).
We released a music video for “Justice” (track one off “Horsebird”) on the 1st of September, 2014 which was filmed and edited by Jason O'Hara & Chris Beaver (sevensuns.ca).
