Biography

The Mike Block Band presents an exciting and genre-bending combination of rock, classical, jazz, and folk music through original songs, improvisational tunes, and fully written-out compositions by cellist and singer, Mike Block. The MBB features some of the most experienced and diverse musicians in New York City: Kyle Sanna on Guitar, Mat Fieldes on Bass, and Damien Bassman on Drums/Percussion. Formed in December of 2007, the MBB has established a long-standing residency of sold-out shows in the West Village of New York City.

In 2009, they recorded their debut album, “Words R Words”, which features Mike’s quirky, yet directly personal songwriting/singing that stretches the Indie-Rock tradition with World-music and Classical influences. In January of 2010, the Mike Block Band released their second CD, “After the Factory Closes”, an instrumental album that draws heavily upon American Folk, Jazz, Arabic, and Classical Music.

These two albums capture the engaging energy of The Mike Block Band’s live performances, with captivating songs, unique compositions, stunning improvisations, and one-of-a-kind virtuosic cello playing.
