"Sampling of Reviews/Quotes"

"Tuesday night [...] at Joe's Pub [...] something of the magnificent sort happened [...] Alex and Janel, with their impeccable harmonies, tight instrumentals, and heart tugging lyrics, brought the house down[...]they just make me want to hear more."
- Fend Magazine

- Jim Campilongo, Guitarist (The Little Willies, Teddy Thompson, Cake, et al)

“Incredibly beautiful[...]the pairing is fantastic[...]Iwouldn't be surprised at all if they are the next to break from the area...the songs are that good.”
- ThePenguin.com

“No filler here...just great songwriting sung with pure emotion.”

Bio

Since coming together in the summer of 2007, Alex Brumel and Janel Elizabeth have quickly established themselves as one of New York City's finest Americana/Folk-Rock outfits. Along with their versatile backing band, The Mill Stone, Alex & Janel have developed a reputation for writing sophisticated, hooky folk-pop with the occasional nod to traditional country. The group often incorporates elements of folk, rock, jazz, blues, and country in a style that has been likened to acts as diverse as Nickel Creek, The Swell Season, Norah Jones, and The Jayhawks.

In only three years as a band, Alex & Janel have played many of NYC's most notable venues, including the Mercury Lounge, Joe's Pub, The Living Room, The Cutting Room, and The Bell House. In October of 2008 they were invited to sing with Southside Johnny and La Bamba's Big Band on stage at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square as part of a celebration of the music of Tom Waits. Other notable venues include Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, MI, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Cafe 939 at Berklee in Boston, and too many colleges to count.

Alex & Janel have had the honor of sharing stages with an impressive list of musicians, including Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Ingrid Michaelson, Duncan Sheik, Ari Hest, Eric Hutchinson, Noah and the Whale, Pete Francis (Dispatch), Ollabelle, Adam Levy, David Mansfield, Sahaj Ticotin (Ra), Jenny Owen Younge, Jimmy Vivino, and many more.

The band released their full-length debut, "The Mill Stone," in 2009. Plans are in place for a followup in the near future. In the meantime, Alex, Janel & The Mill Stone are surely coming to a city near you. For more information, please visit www.alexandjanel.com.
