"The Minor Lift" is an energetic original rock/alternative band based out of New Brunswick, NJ. This is a band that thinks outside the box to bring you a non-stereotypical rock show. After hearing the detail that goes into there music, you'll quickly learn why this band is all about the QUALITY. Each members skill and dedication to there own individual instruments is what sets this band apart from the rest. AHMED GORHAM... Currently the director of the Rutgers University Marching Band drum line... is capable of some of the most intricate drumbeats and fills, that leave most people thinking long after the music as ended. PHIL BASS... A musician that has been studying for almost 20 years... demonstrates why he's NOT your "everyday" bass player at every show. MIKE FRIEDMAN... As the bands newest member, is an extremely skilled lead guitarist that puts so much heart & soul into every track played. The multi-talented MATT THOMPSON... His powerful vocals, eccentric guitar riffs, and keyboard melodies is simply the icing on the cake. After combining all the necessary pieces to the puzzle, you too will soon see why this is a show not to be missed.

The name is homage to Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” It is a play-on-words referencing the refrain, “It goes like this, the fourth the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift. The baffled king composing hallelujah . . .” It aptly describes the dissonant nature of the melodies and the music’s intent to rise or “lift” the listener’s spirit. The logo of an escalator, (as well as elevators, stairs & other physical or mechanical “LIFTS”) are used to further embody the idea”.

They have been welcomed by the stages of STARLAND BALLROOM, CBGB's, The Pussycat Lounge, Piano's NYC, & The Knitting Factory, as well as the popular local (New Brunswick) favorites, Marita's Cantina, The Old Bay, The Court Tavern & The Harvest Moon.. Most recently.. The Minor Lift performed at BAMBOOZLE 2010 in the Meadowlands. "You must check this show out.. to see what all the hype's about."
