What do you get when you cross two medical students, an aeronautical engineer, a medical physicist and a day-trader? - The Minx!

Catchy, quirky, edgy rock-pop, with elements of folk, blues and jazz. Open your ears to the harmonies, open your hearts to the lyrics, and prepare to be seduced!

Biography

"Medicine is my wife, but music is my mistress" - Peter Goldsworthy.

And so it is for singer/songwriter Jade Goodge (Vocals/Guitar), and her partner in crime and best friend, Heli Simpson (Vocals/Percussion). The two currently study medicine in Melbourne, and performed around town as an acoustic duet, until Jade met Derwin Parkin (Keys/Vocals) in January 2011, and decided it was time to "get a proper band together." The stars aligned, and Jade, Derz and Heli found Grail Jones (Drums) and Sam Crouch (Bass/Vocals) sitting in a pub one night. (Ok, so really, they found Grail and Sam via a musician networking website, but it felt embarrassingly like internet dating, so they all agreed to say "We met in a pub!")

The lyrics are intimate and heart-felt, and the musical style varies (often according to Jade's mood while she's writing...!); sometimes rock, sometimes folk, sometimes blues, sometimes pop... But always with a Minxy undertone!

Other projects;

Jade - Lead vocalist in a project currently under production by Melbourne's Damien Wieland. Other musicians also featured in the project; Rick Grossman (Hoodoo Gurus) and Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil).

Heli - Spent her early years as a successful actress in childrens' television, and was signed to Shock Records in 2004. Now Hels is back to storm the world of music after a seven year sojourn.

Derz - Recently returned home from the US, this hip-hop producer (NYOIL [US], Zenith [AUS]) is returning to his classical roots.

The Minx played their first gig on their 4 week anniversary, headlining at the Brunswick Hotel, and they packed the venue out. This enthusiasm from fans was repeated just four nights later, when they again packed out the same venue, playing for an Oxfam fundraiser.

The Minx has some further Melbourne gigs lined up in July and September, and plans to apply for the festival circuit 2011/2012

They move quickly... Can YOU catch The Minx?!

Lyrics

Heartless

Written By: Jade Goodge

Heartless he smiles and insists that he's fine
As I slowly unravel to ribbons before him
Cruelty so bright and viscously refined
That I'm shocked into speechlessness by it's sheer purity
Beauty in lies, distract all my tears
You make heaven and hell blur to the same thing
Truth keep me calm, distract me my fears
Every breath burning I'm trying to believe in you again

Something's been bent that can't be unbroken
And something's been lost that can't be respoken
And something's been lost that just can't re-open
I'm turning to ashes before you

And I'm finally clear-headed
I'm finally clear-headed
I'm finally clear-headed
I'm finally free

Callous he cries and insists on my pity
I concede and recoil and shiver before him
Selfishly bright he expertly shines
And I'm left in a rocking boat, heavy as concrete
Can you distinguish the facts from your fears?
Can you at least tell the difference between love and need?
Ego keep calm, distract me my tears
Every breath burning I'm trying to believe in you again

Something's been bent that can't be unbroken
And something's been lost that can't be respoken
And something's been lost that just can't re-open
I'm burning to ashes before you

And I'm finally clear-headed
I'm finally clear-headed
I'm finally clear-headed
I'm finally free

The Boy and His Beast

Written By: Jade Goodge

The boy and his beast go walking
Looking for trouble and they find it
Where they expected least
Back at the home they left in peace
The concrete streets now turned to rubble where they once sank their teeth in
The house they one called home now bare and cold and filled with ghosts

Lock and leave, throw away the keys
Lock and leave, throw away the keys
Lock and leave me discarded

The boy and his beast go hunting
Looking for prey that's already weak at the knees
And ready to meet the kiss of sun-down, prey just like me
The boy and his beast shed no tears as they release me
It's too late for them to change what they have become and what they believe

Lock and leave, throw away the keys
Lock and leave, throw away the keys
Lock and leave me scarred

The boy and his beast go searching for salvation
He wraps his cloak about his knees to escape the bitter winter
The brittle bones of once-chased quarry wasting to grey
Now the ivory temple where they now pray for dreamless sleep

Lock and leave, throw away the keys
Lock and leave, throw away the keys
Lock and leave him buried
Leave him buried
