"Album of the Month - August '05"

Time beats only once Album of the Month on Rock Sound (August '05)

"With influences from Coldplay, Travis and Radiohead and the American sounds, Time beats only once it's a great double cd..!

An international sound with a rock and pop attitude without forgetting deep atmospheres and bright moments.

The band successfully made an international product with an Italian root. It reaches a pop mainstream audience mantaining a fine quality base!"

"Deliriumadelica/Nice review"

Deliriumadelica / Nice reviewed
on Losing Today

"Nothing at all but stars"

"Nothing at all but stars" reviewed
on Rock Sound (January '04)

"..Raffinati ed eleganti, i Mirrors seguono la strada del pop d'oltremanica: Beatles nel DNA e Oasis e Radiohead in testa. Le canzoni, cantate in inglese, affascinano con il loro incedere delicato e dolce. Sono loro stessi a nominare anche Coldplay e Travis, ma per la timbrica vocale mi è venuto in mente Lloyd Cole.."

Bio

The Mirrors are an indie-rock quartet founded in Milan in 2002.

The bands sound combines psychedelic elements with smooth melodies and a vintage flavour, rock n roll energy with a bluesy soul.

The group was born out of its members love for British and American music, and its original repertoire often draws on lesser-known pieces from Anglo-American bands.

The musicians, all in their mid-twenties, are Marco Ortensi, founder of the group and keyboardist; Andy Vitali, vocalist and guitarist with a 70s flair; Andrea Gobbi, bassist with whimsical riffs; and drummer Emanuele Platania, fond of solid rhythms.

The Milanese label Echophonic sponsored the band from 2003-2009, and in that time the group released a series of albums that were very well-received by critics, who declared them among the best on the Italian indie-rock scene (Time Beats Only Once was a RockSound album of the month in 2005, the band won a prize from InSound critics and excellent reviews in Rockstar, Rumore, Tribe Magazine, Corriere della Sera, etc). The songs played many times on Radio Rai 1 and other networks.

The band has made many appearances at festivals and nightclubs, including: the Creativity Festival in Florence, the IPO Festival at Liverpools Cavern Club, Milano Film Festival, the Milano in Music Festival at the Castello Sforzesco, the Rai Demo Festival (before 25'000 concert-goers at Lamezia), and others. They shared the scene with artists such as Velvet, L'Aura, Daniele Groff, and Hinkel of Fools Garden, to name a few.

Recently producer Andre Doucette (30 Seconds to Mars) selected Through for the American film Shred starring Tom Green and distributed in the United States and Canada.

The bands first video IF, produced by Leone Balduzzi, also received many accolades for its well-researched adaptation of cinemas film noir style.

The well-known international magazine Shots also applauded the bands video. When the television networks Sky and Canadas CBC put the video on the air, 'The Great Illusion' Album reached fourth place in Italys iTunes rock chart in March 2006.

Praise continues to rain upon the group, which received two PVI and PIVI nominations and invitations to the Creativity Festival, the Venice Airport Festival and OCurt. The video was also inducted to All Musics Video History of Rock and included in Roxy Bars dvd.

Some of the best recognition to date came from abroad when in 2007 Steve Zuckerman winner of two Grammy Awards for the production of Les Paul & Friends with Keith Richards and Eric Clapton took note of The Whole and chose to include it in a charity project called Hope: Love is the Answer alongside Robert Fripp of King Crimson. The song played on the Big Apples Jack FM 101.1, a CBS radio station.

Some pieces, such as If and The Whole, received special mentions from Billboard and the International Songwriting Competition, which features Robert Smith (The Cure) and Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order) among its jury members.

The Mirrors band members continue to work with both Italian and international musicians. In 2007, an encounter with Bluvertigos Andy and his figurative art, and exposure to Fools Gardens international sound, led to collaboration and the resulting split The Big Eye.

Two new EPs came out in December 2009, showcasing the bands artistic maturity and continued musical growth.
