Bio

The Mo'Jelly Band is from New Orleans and started years ago with friends getting together at an open jam night. The Jam nights started as a musical outlet to play something free and different than the usual full time band songlist, and soon enough it became obvious something special was happening. The more we jammed, the “jam” became “jelly” and somehow the name Mo’Jelly came out of it.
Our influences include the many great local musicians, some who had a profound effect on Rock and Roll like Professor Longhair, Allen Toussaint and Ernie K-Doe (who some of us had the honor of playing with). Other influences are Southern Blues Greats like BB King, T-Bone Walker and Albert King; Caribbean and reggae music; and also jazz influenced improvisations that many so called jam bands have infused in their sound. Put this all together, mix in the local musical roux, and you have the Mo’Jelly Band whose progressive live shows have enough energy to power a small fleet of motor vehicles while still keeping true to the many spectrums of New Orleans roots music.
Between the current band members, we have about 100 years experience in the music business from playing in Cajun bands that traveled across Europe, playing the New Orleans Jazz Fest, playing with the best musicians at the famous clubs in the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas. With this diverse background and enthusiastic playing, the band has since encountered a variety of gigs from a local TV appearance, to festivals, to the many clubs in the surrounding areas of New Orleans and Baton Rouge and the Gulf Coast. Our goal is to keep the music alive and to keep our fan base growing where ever we go.
