The Molasses Theory was born in May, 2012 after bassist Marty Sutlovich wandered into a Coffee Shop in Seattle and heard singer/songwriter Jim Marcotte playing one evening. The two connected and recruited percussionist Bill Riach to fill out the bands sound. Laura Lagerstedt was added as second vocalist to sweeten the melodies.
Jim Marcotte provides the original songs for the band. The Molasses Theory takes Jim's originals to a new level. With a focus on detail, dynamics and subtle nuances , the bands sound is unique in a sea of bands that play standard chord change, one volume level. Bottom line - they keep things aurally interesting.
Jim's songwriting and meaningful lyrics make listening to the band's product an enjoyable experience. Influenced by the great artists from the 1960's and 70's, the songs respectfully reflect those undeniable influences.
