"Guitar 9 Review"

"imagine a combination of a psychedelic medicine man and a drunken sailor, plugging a Strat into a stack of amps, teetering on the edge of dissonance. Nothing out there to directly compare it to." Dan McAvinchey. Guitar Nine Records - Dan McAvinchey. Guitar Nine Records

"Wildys World Review"

"In a time when modern rock is filled with 1970's and 1980's musical apologists who use retro influences to fuel their modern sounds, The Monochrome Cherubs are the real thing" - "Wildys World" Wildy Haskell

"DANGERDOG.COM Review"

'Blisterene' defies the current hard rock trends of current American music with aggressive yet melodic riffs coupled with natural progressive nods, subversive psychedelic tendencies, and clever vocal arrangements."
Craig Hartranft DANGERDOG.COM - Craig Hartranft

"SEED, HYPETREE REVIEW"

"The Monochrome Cherubs are pure balls-to-the-wall rock n roll. No nods to pop, soul, hip hop or indie, just straight hard rock ripped straight from the textbooks of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Overdriven guitar screams and the rhythm section pummels through a riff-laden sludge of psychedelic noise revolution. The power trio has three albums under their belt so far, and their fourth, You Are Here, is set for release at a to-be-determined date." - Chris Bullock, SEED, THE HYPETREE BLOG

"J.I.M.I. Review"

"Hard-edged, guitar oriented alternative rock...showing signs it's headed in the right direction" Ken Voss J.I.M.I. (The Jimi Hendrix Information Mgmt Institute) - Ken Voss J.I.M.I

"Rockbandlounge Review"

"Pure Grind,Part psychosis, with a touch of anger, love, guitar bliss and the blues thrown in!" ROCKBANDLOUNGE.COM
- ROCKBANDLOUNGE.COM

"Daily Freeman Review"

"From title-track "Blisterene", the riff-driven "Read Between the Lines" and the huge, monolithic "Rip Off," the Monochrome Cherubs know get to the point with its back-to-basics rock." - David Malachowski,The Daily Freeman

Bio

Tim Lacy and The Cherubs are back with the best one to date. Two years in the making, "PURE GRINDING SPARKLE" captures the sound of a rock band exploring newer sonic territories. The current version reunites Drummer Michael Sciotto(From The Fire, Sun Red Sun, w/ Ray Gillen, Jefferson Starship) and studio guitar wiz Nick Moroch (David Bowie, David Sanborn, Lenny White, Vanessa Williams) on Bass Patrol as well as lending some extraordinary guitar virtuosity.

This CD really captures the sonic intensity of this group of extraordinary musicians. Recorded at Elliptical Sound  in Ossining New York, it marks another in a series of revolutionary productions, and this is only the beginning!

Tim Lacy left the "cushy"confines of New York City and retreated north to upstate New York. A good portion of his career was spent working as a session guitarist and vocalist. I worked with bands like Thief, Man Size Habit (W/ Pete Marshall of Iggy Pop), Messenger (W/ Paul Pesco of Madonna, Steve Winwood) and with Producer Paul O'Neill(Trans Siberian Orchestra, Aerosmith) on several recordings. "I was in a baby band then, Paul was an up and coming Producer. Other than my own band,"Thief",I really didn't have too much going on, so Paul asked if I would assist him on this record he was producing for Atlantic Records. The band was called "Savatage" and the record was "Hall of the Mountain King." It worked out so well we did the follow up "Gutter Ballet" and finally the First "Badlands" record with Jake E. Lee and Ray Gillen. It never really dawned on me how much production exposure I was getting back then." He also worked as an In-House sound engineer for SIR studios in New York . "If you are a musician looking to get ahead, you gotta pay your dues at SIR. Every great musician rehearses there, from Sonny Rollins to Roberta Flack, and from Radiohead to White Zombie. That was quite an experience! I was constantly honing my chops. When I wasn't mixing sound for bands like "INXS" or "David Sanborn" I was sitting in with whoever was crazy or desperate enough to let me jam with them."

"I wasn't really satisfied with what I was hearing on records or the radio or MTV at that time.I was really restless and felt like Rock N Roll was moving away from it's roots. I remember when Stevie Ray passed away. It was so tragic and music really needed what he had to offer back then. I remember thinking what's left? I needed to get back to what it was that made me fall in love with Rock N Roll in the first place......Rhythm and Blues and Jimi Hendrix." He listened again to Robert Johnson and Skip James. He also rediscovered Rory Gallagher. "It was that kind of playing...Jimi's, Stevie's and Rory"s.. that was missing in my life. That fluid, organic ,bluesy sound, the sound of the soul. The sound of a Strat." He "shedded" for about two years and finally got to work on putting together a project studio.

The first version of Tim's home studio "The Mambo Room" was built in early 2001 in Woodstock New York and has since expanded and moved to the New Paltz area of upstate New York. It will continue to be a place in which to create aural landscapes that will challenge modern conventions!... In the meantime Elliptical Sound is his home, away from home.
