"The Mothers"

The Mothers are an upcoming band of guys that came out of my high school. At first I was a little skeptical about the music, but when I found myself listening to the songs over and over again, I knew there was something special to it. This isn't the normal music that you have seen on this blog, so please give them a look I promise its worth your time. There is so much potential in these guys that they should not be over looked. Let's join them on their journey to make it to the top.
Their first song that I listened to, and also has the most hits, is Soul and Joy. I cannot explain the feelings received when listening to this, so you're just going to have to do it yourself.
After You've Gone is another great song that has more of a rock background to it.

The last track we will post from The Mothers is a more vocal song, but not one you should leave here without listening to.
- Lucid Daydreams

"Have You Met The Mothers"

We did a quick interview with a couple of the guys from The Mothers. Feel free to check out this up and coming band’s work on their facebook page and let us know what you think!
Q: Who is in the band and what do you play?
A: Julian Menkin-lead vocals/guitar, Jose Parody- lead vocals/bass, Gabriel Marquez- piano/vocals, Estefan Colindres-drums/vocals
Q:Where are you from?
Gabriel: Born in Jersey, raised in Miami.
Julian: Raised in Miami, born in LA.
Q: How did the name “The Mothers” come about?

Gabriel: Oh man, finding a name for the group was a hassle. I remember such ridiculous name ideas being called out. Eventually, Julian stumbled upon the name. Having nothing else in mind, we went with it.

Julian: I was reading a book and started skipping around looking for phrases and it came up. I thought it was simple and stays with you; easy to remember. Theres also some cool connotations though if you choose to look into it like that. It can be difficult to not sound like some ass hole off when deciding on something like a band name.
Q:How long have you been playing individually and how long as a band?
Julian -I’ve been playing for about 9 years.
Gabriel: As a pianist/organist, I’d say over 3 years now. However, I did receive prior knowledge to the piano as a kid. It wasn’t much, as it was being forced upon me, I quickly dropped it. I approached it again in high school with the organ. Developed a habit for teaching myself. Having been influenced by psychedelic rock, I learned how to improvise, and made it all one fat expression. Smiles and laughter all day. It’s been one love since.
Julian- As a group Jose and I started playing together –doing acoustic music and singing harmonies. Estefan joined shortly after that and we spent about a year playing “Everyday People” in Jose’s house, eventually going to small open mics around Miami.
Gabriel: I was never really apart of the group. I would sit in with them quite often, and slowly it became a norm from there on out. We would have “Jams”, not band practice. Sometime pre-summer 2009, I started playing local venues with them.
Q:Any tours coming up?
Gabriel: Well, we are all separated with school at the time. But it’s a possibility that we’ll arrange something.
Julian: Yeah I’ve been looking at the logistics of a tour this summer, a trip up the east coast to upstate new York. There’s a fair amount of time between now and then, we’ll see what other opportunities present themselves.
Q: Do you plan on officially releasing anything soon (EPs, singles, etc)?
Gabriel: There is a good chance we’ll have more out, yes.
Julian: We’re probably going to have sessions come December. I’ve got some new tunes, maybe release a 7 inch by middle of next year. Also a real EP is probably in order
Q:What have you been listening to lately?
Gabriel: Jaco Pastorius, Medeski Martin & Wood, String Cheese Incident, Steely Dan.
Julian: Jackie Wilson, Django, the first lennon solo record …. Just got in to Tom Petty a bit also
Q:Anything you’d like to tell your fans?
Gabriel: Is this thing on? Wuuuuhsup gaiis?!
Julian: Check the facebook for updates on music, videos, and performances. Some cool stuff coming up - Float Magazine

Bio

The love child of Sly Stone, The Band, The Beach boys, and the Pixies --

The Mothers: Not many groups cultivate the true art of being a band, in the truest sense of the word; The dynamics, communication, groove, and the artistry of a seasoned ensemble are undeniable within seconds of hearing any of The Mothers tracks. These four musicians have been playing together since they've picked up their instruments. Together they've learned how to sing harmonies, write songs, and command an audience. With an almost telepathic musical chemistry and deft defying knowledge of Western Music from Charley Patton to Cole Porter, from Sun Records to the Motown sound; Bacharach/David to Lennon/ Mccartney. The Mothers are the premiere Rock and Roll band in South Florida
