"Four Artists that will Turn Heads This Year"

For the last week, I’ve been searching and searching for new bands and artists that I could enjoy. The search has led me to four unbelievably talented bands. Each one exudes so much beauty in their art, it’s a shame they’re under the radar. Every time I post about a new band, my hope is that it ignites a fire inside of you and you discover something fresh to listen to. Here are four that deserve your complete attention. - Soundsthatmatter.com

"The Mount Rushmores"

Southern Mississippi-based band, The Mount Rushmores, made a monument out of celebrating the wide eyed kid in everyone with their charmingly wise and haunting debut EP, Who You Hope To Be. Now, they look forward to making an even larger mark on music as they prepare for their very first full length record.

"The Saint" - The Mount Rushmores
“We’re coming into the studio ready,” keyboardist Charley Tynes expresses. “We’ve been exploring all the edges of the box that is The Mount Rushmores, and we’re ready to bring something new with our latest batch of songs.”

TMR’s make it clear that listeners can expect that the choir of voices they are accustomed to will be larger and the dynamic flow of the songs will be more pronounced.

Guitarist Ethan Manning sums it up when he adds, “We’re still the Rushmores of Who You Hope To Be, but we’re taking the good and blowing it up.”

Who You Hope To Be represents a tapestry of characters from every walk of life struggling to find love, overcoming adversity, and working to make names for themselves in this wild world, and nothing embodies this more than their official mascot Eddie, the precocious boy with a dream to become a tiger.

“Eddie wants to be something bigger than what he really is...he is hungry for a bigger life. We think a lot of other people are too,” states front man, Jeremy Stricklin.

With their new record, they are hoping to take this concept a step further with Eddie facing the darker side of life. The Mount Rushmores are quick to say, however, that the next record is not a concept record in the truest sense, and Eddie is not necessarily the focal point, but only a piece of the puzzle.

“There’s a thread, but it’s not a straight line,” bass player Josh Stricklin chimes in.

All in all TMR’s just want everyone they encounter to come and join in with them during their energetic live shows, preferring interaction over pure listening.

“We take in what our fans want to hear from us...fans matter,” Josh shares, while Jeremy adds “[At any given show] we invite our listeners to find their own Eddie, and become who they hope to be...that’s what we stand for.”

Make sure to catch The Mount Rushmores on tour through the Southeast this spring and summer 2012 and join in the adventure.

"The Mount Rushmores"

There is an evergrowing list of bands trying to break out into stardom. Bands that work for years and years only to come up short in the end; never having gained the celebrity status they were dreaming of. There are those kind of bands and then there are the kinds of bands that dream of something bigger, like touching the hearts of everyone who comes across their music. The Mt. Rushmores write songs in hopes that it heals the listener. Who are The Mt. Rushmores you ask? A band from Hattisburg, Mississippi, who dream of someday ending up in a bigger town to call home. Their aspirations run much deeper than just becoming famous. They hope to someday heal millions with their lyrics. Their recent EP, Who You Hope To Be, has just been released, and after much listening, you’ll understand when I say that every song on there deserves a special little place in your heart. Last month I had the chance to video chat with singer, Jeremiah Stricklin, about many things; including their EP, who exactly is Eddie, and the touching story of Rodney Jackson.

Bio

The Mount Rushmores is a band whose values and goals have manifested themselves into a seeable yet intangible idea. That idea’s name is Eddie. Eddie is a kid who wants to be bigger than he really is. He is hungry for a life where he can be happy doing what he loves and showing the world that anyone can do the same. Eddie stands for the beliefs and ideas of the Mount Rushmores. The Mount Rushmores is a band from South Mississippi with a strong desire to be a band with a worldwide fan base. A desire that strengthens with every chord that fills the atmosphere, every thump of the kick drum, and every cheer of a fan. When our target audience is reached and fully realized, the sun will never fully set on our fans. The main focus of the Rushmores is: “Will this song pull on the heartstrings of our listeners?” “Will our fans come to our music after a terrible day at work for relief and to feel better?” “Will we be refuge for the weary?” Each of these ideas is carefully woven into every song we write. Our lyrics are written in a way that can be compared to songs written by other artists. Songs of love, overcoming adversity, making at better name for yourself and a myriad of situations, with which everyone will sympathize. However, the stories told in the words put a spin on the typical writing style of our time. We expect our listeners to find adventure and fantasy in our songs. We want them to try something new, experience something extraordinary. We invite our listeners to find their own Eddie, and become who they hope to be. This is who we are and what we stand for.
