The Movement

The Movement

BandAlternativePop

The Movement have a knack for producing fast paced alternative pop with an edge all while tipping a respectful nod to the eighties post punk scene. Their infectious melodies will have you tapping your foot for days after.

Biography

The Movement are currently going into Apollo studios with Ian McNulty to record their frist single for release in October 2006.

For the best picture of The Movement, here are somethings said about them:

'the fact that they dont wear skinny jeans or have poncy fringes shouldnt stop many more people hearing their majestic and enthralling music.' - Hattie N, SoundsXP

'contemporary pop sensibility with a snappy synth-era aura .... a catchy chorus likely to cause outbursts of the singalong variety....a snappy pop beat and a great chorus' - Jackie Hayden, Hotpress demo review

The Movement have passed along to me a 3 song demo, which rings of New Order and is pretty exciting listening. - alison curtis, Today Fm

'A great wee band' - Across The Line, BBC Radio Ulster

The Movement have a knack for producing fast paced alternative pop with an edge all while tipping a respectful nod to the eighties scene. - Eric Campbell, New Music Ireland

Things started back in 2002 when martin was introduced to conn by his brother. They got together and played a few tunes, and, thinking that things sounded good, conn invited his friend and longtime collaborator matthew onboard. A drummer came, and a drummer went, and then stephen joined. The name was changed and the movement was born. Armed with a pretentious name with 'the' in it, they started putting together a solid set of songs.

They recorded their first ep in 2005, Never Gonna Give You Up, featuring Set Me Free, Never Gonna Give You Up and Crash. With comparisons to New Order and early U2, it seams they are destined for great things. A strong sense of melody and a quirky pop sensibilty sets their music apart from the many post punk bands on the scene at the moment. Driving bass and drums, chorused guitars and stucatto piano riffs gives the band a pulsing energy and edge, founded on Martin Boylans lyrics and unique vocal sound. This year The Movement are back gigging and getting ready to go into the studio in summer 2006 to record their first single.

Lyrics

Set Me Free

Written By: The Movement

fall to the ground it's the sound of your everlasting fear
When you think that its near well it always comes and goes

pass on to me what you feel what you think will set me free
from this life from this hate from my final leap of faith
will I go will I stay will I do these things my way
if I hand you the key would you love me set me free
would you love me set me free

hope springs in me like a wart like an everlasting weed
will you hear what I say
when its all goodbye good day

I love you more than you know so ithink I better go
to the place in the sun that I knew would always come

will I go will I stay will I do these things my way
if I hand you the key would you love me set me free

will I go will I stay will I can hear it everyday
if I hand you the key would you love me set me free
would you love me set me free
would you love me set me free

Crash

Written By: The Movement

I wander on
you wander off
I pick and choose
you lose the lot

I hear you're winning
at noughts and crosses
you give me nothing
I'll give you crosses

why don't you crash into me
why don't you crash into me
why don't you crash into me

you think I'm hard
you think I'm high
I'm like a wall
that would be climbed

why don't you crash into me
why don't you crash into me
why don't you crash into me

you call the shots
I call to mind
all of your faults
then hide behind

why don't you crash into me
