The Murders Bio
The 21st century post-punk/new wave revival continues thanks to the efforts of Boise, Idaho's The Murders. The quartet mixes familiar retro styles with a modern twist and creates a sound that's raw yet familiarly compelling. The Murders were born in January 2004 as a side project by husband/wife duo Jacobb T. and Ashley Sackett. The side project soon became the serious project and the duo enlisted their friend, Dr. James Litke to the group. The group's prolific output has yielded 50 songs in four years with 13 of those appearing on their self-titled debut album. "All of these songs were home-produced," explains Sackett, "which really contributed to retaining that raw, 'Murders' sound without being lo-fi or being hard to listen to." That sound, which the groups dubs "erotic punk", is a combination of techniques and styles weaned from such influences as Wall of Voodoo, The Cure, Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Strokes and The Cramps. Their lyrics, however, owe more to psychobilly. "Our songs deal with realities, morbidity, dark humor, and subtle forms of erotica", explains Sackett, "as well as a few tales of mythological beasts or bizarre yarns of cannibalism." The quirky, tongue-in-cheek stories range in content from science fiction ("Entering Jupiter") to retro-erotic encounters ("White Knuckle") to horror ("Lycanthropy"). The group has shared the stage with numerous up-and-comers such as The Epoxies, The Phenomenauts and The High Violets. They were also featured in the 2007 BoDog Battle of the Bands. The Murders are currently working on their second full-length album.
