BandPopSinger/Songwriter

I enjoy writing songs that captivate, challenge, and stir the affections of each listener, each in a unique way. I always attempt to properly romance the lyrics and the music. I attempt to be organic. Where there is an ear, hopefully a Michael Paul song will be heard.

Biography

In the summer of 2004 there was a 3 song Demo recorded by four guys, on a shoestring budget, for the sole purpose of attaining live performance opportunities for their music. Once completed, the Demo, aptly titled "Broadcast Ready", was replicated and distributed independently to various local churches and music venues. The name of the band, "Iconoclast", is a term which in literal translation means "image-breaker", that originated during the 5th and 6th century at the time of the Byzantine Empire.
An Iconoclast is one who breaks down popular culture and destroys idols. The great Theologian and Author, C.S. Lewis wrote a book called "A Grief Observed", published in 1962. Here is an excerpt from the quote, which Iconoclast also uses as a stance for their name:

"...my idea of God is not a divine idea, it has to be shattered time after time. He shatters it himself. He is the great iconoclast...

When a contest provided Iconoclast with an opportunity to take their music further, the guys jumped on board, full speed ahead. The annual Rising Star contest sponsored by the Christian Station 94.9 FM KLTY in Dallas, Texas took place in the Fall of 2004 and received some 800 entries, of which 5 finalist were chosen, including Iconoclast. Entries were accepted as a single song format, on CD and critiqued by radio and industry professionals on quality, style, musicianship, and lyrics. The 5 finalists competed in live performance before a panel of judges from the music industry, hundreds of screaming fans, and a convention audience.
Iconoclast took home the win as Rising Star 2004 with the song "Walk On In" which consequently landed them an opening spot at the July 4th, 2005 Celebrate Freedom Festival, Recording Studio time at Soundtown Digital Studios in Hurst, Texas, and radio airplay for the winning song, "Walk On In". Iconoclast soon went into the studio where they recorded their debut album "Burn Your Bridges", featuring the hit song, "Walk On In", with Producer David Parker whom has worked with Major names such as Chris Tomlin, Joel Engle, Shane and Shane, Billy and Cindy Foote, and the Drummer for Steven Curtis Chapman, Will Denton.
Iconoclast coincided the release of their debut CD at the 94.9 FM KLTY Celebrate Freedom Festival where they would be performing and that very same morning interviewed with Frank Reed before their song, "Walk On In" was played for the first time on the Radio. With much demand by local fans in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex for continuous airplay, "Walk On In" soon was fighting for the top spot in Andie Jaxson's 10@10.

Finally, "Walk On In" hit #1 and remained there for several weeks before being picked-up by numerous other Christian Stations Nationwide, landing the song in the Top 20 Billboard Music Charts where it also remained for several weeks.
Eventually, Mardel Bookstores, and Lifeway Christian Stores started selling the CD "Burn Your Bridges". Lifeway Christian Stores even judged the album as the Best "NEW" Album for 2005. The album was also made available on iTunes for digital download and promoted through the worldwide acclaimed internet site MySpace. E-commerce sites such as Grassroots Music and CD Baby also quickly picked up the CD in response to rising demand and soon Iconoclast was being called on for more live performance opportunities. Overall, some of the artists that Iconoclast has opened for are as follows;

The Afters, By the Tree, Casting Crowns, All 3 solo artists formerly of DC Talk---Toby Mac, Michael Tait, and Kevin Max, Bebo Norman, Matthew West, House of Heroes, Jars of Clay, Inhabited, Dizmas, Dalton, and many more...

In the Summer of 2006, Iconoclast released an iTunes exclusive titled, "The Faithful EP", with a sneak preview of 2 Brand-New Tracks "Faithful" and "Obvious", plus a rockin' remix of the song "Reveal". "Faithful" is a song by artists Ben and Robin Paisley, originally performed by the group Waterdeep on the CD--Enter the Worship Circle. "Obvious", is an original rock ballad proclaiming the message, "I should've known I could not live alone", recognizing that the need for someone greater than ourselves is and should be "Obvious".

After 3 years as the Front-Man for Iconoclast I have branched out as an independent artist, with one goal in mind. "Whoever has an ear, let him hear." I bring with me a message that seeks to shatter your reality, paired with music that will move you. For extended Biography please visit:

Strong Hands

V1:

May I hold you close while the world falls apart around us?
May you find the answers to the questions that you have?
Do you need a shoulder to lean on while you're crying?
Do you need a friend? Do you need a hand?
Here are mine

C:

Strong hands have known the pain you feel
Strong hands have been pierced by nails
Strong hands will heal your broken heart
Strong enough to lift you up wherever you are

V2:

Never give up hope, though you sure will want to
Never start believing that you have reached the end
Never be forgetful that Love is always for you
Even in the gray, there's a brighter day up ahead

Tag:

Hold on.
I said Hold on.
Oh, you've got to hold on to something.
Hold on to something.
Strong enough to lift you up wherever you are.

Walk On In

V1

Why do you walk around the same place again
Haven't I said that now is the time to enter in
Flee this desert for your promise land
Walk On In

C

I have been waiting for you
Walk On In
Come as you are, won't you
Walk On In
Behold the door is open
Walk On In
Walk into your promise land

V2

Why do you question that I love you so
The evil one will try to steal your heart and soul
Don't be afraid now, he's not in control
Walk On In

C

I have been waiting for you
Walk On In
Come as you are, won't you
Walk On In
Behold the door is open
Walk On In
Walk into your promise land

Bridge

Walk On In
Walk On In, yeah
He's calling out for you out there
Walk on In

Reveal

Reveal

V1

In a thought I can't contain
What do I know?
I refrain
From trying to explain
the mysteries of you
I refrain

C

You, you hold the stars in the sky
Seperate day from night
And I know that you, you are new everyday
Yet, you never change
Who can fathom this mystery

V2

Three in one, the same
What else can I say?
You remain
Great nations fall away
Yet, you, you remain
Here to stay

C

You, you hold the stars in the sky
Seperate day from night
And I know that you, you are new everyday
Yet, you never change
Who can fathom this mystery?

Bridge

Your majesty
Reveal to me what I cannot explain
What is painted in the sky

Fighting For Resolution

Fighting For Resolution

V1

A broken record on the wall
But the music never dies
Broken hearts in everyone
Still the music lives inside

Here's an imprint of my heart
Take a listen if you want
I will play you what I feel
You interpret as you will

C

This could also be your song
I will share my heart with you
Find your words and try to sing along
We're just different hearts in unison
Fighting for Resolution

V2

We are separate, yet involved
With our backs against a wall
In a world that doesn't care
With no exits anywhere

We're alright (all right), yet we're all wrong
But, could we try to get along?
We're all products of the fall
We are fighting for resolve

Obvious

Obvious

V1:

I am sorry things have turned out this way.
We have been here before my excuses are still the same.
I am sorry.
Words that can be so cliche'.
Absolute Truth is more than the words that I say.

C:

Save me (from myself)
Change me (I am crying out)
I should've known I could not live alone.
I should've know I could not live alone.

V2:

Obvious the answer has always been.
Are you trying to find a place to start over again?
So obvious right there in front of your eyes.
Why not start with surrender reach out and take his hand (and cry...)

Tag:

Save me
Change me

(Background Alt. Chorus:)

I feel the idols breaking inside.
I see the light you have opened my eyes.
Here in this moment with all that I am I will surrender to you.

Like One You're Searching For

Written By: Michael Paul

V1:

If I could have one wish tonight.
I am sure that all the selfish and the selfless would collide.
So, I will ask for something real.
For something greater.

C:

That I might (I want to) see outside of everything that messes up my view.
That I could (I want to) be like one that you are searching for.
That I might (I want to ) see (love) the world the way that you do.
That I could (I want to) learn to love you more.
To Be like one you're searching for.

V1:

Something in the air tonight.
You awaken what is passionate that you placed inside.
Inside this heart on fire, I can feel you burning.
I am taken by surprise at the random ways you make your mercy known in my life.
Life is not about me.
You are shaping who I am.
