Bio

Silentpanic is an experimental-rock band based in Calgary, Canada, initially formed in 2003 by Ty Marshall Deer and Eusebio D’Ortenzio. At that time, Silentpanic was a cover band making the rounds of the southern Alberta scene, and making a name for themselves as crowd-pleasers with plenty of stage presence. They went through a few line-up changes before disbanding in 2005.

The idea of Silentpanic refused to go quietly, however, and that idea kept smoldering away like an ember in the wind, until the time was right…

... to set it alight.

The original band members had all gone their separate ways, and vocalist Ty found himself fronting another cover band, Audioerotica. Ty took Audioerotica into perpetual solid bookings in Calgary's "A circuit" cover scene for 2 years. At that time, Ty realized two important things: firstly, that Audioerotica had gone as far as a cover band could go... with little room for growth... and secondly, he was beginning to find his own voice as a songwriter, and that voice needed an outlet. With his good friends Kyle and Rolly, he began to reform Silentpanic as an original music project, keeping Audioerotica on the side.

Early in 2009, Silentpanic stepped out of the shadow of Audioerotica and made it's return... this time as a vehicle for original, experimental rock. The foundational line-up has solidified, leaving room to grow and expand.

In Summer 2009, Silentpanic won $5000 in Fuel 90.3’s Rock Star competition, and they used the funds to record 4 songs at the award winning MCC Studios in Calgary, Alberta. Since recording those initial songs, Silentpanic is getting consistant airplay on Calgary’s alternative radio station X92.9fm, where they are playing their first single, “Hand Me Down”, 2-5 times a day.

Silentpanic continues to promote not only themselves, but many like-minded Alberta bands and hosted an indie-band night at The Rusty Cage South from 2009-2010. Silentpanic knows that there is a wealth of talent here in Calgary, and is consistently taking steps towards promoting and building the indie-rock scene.

Silentpanic also has a passion for playing benefit shows, and is a huge believer in the pay-it-forward philosophy. Their music is available for free download online anywhere their music is present. They ask that you save the $0.99 per track and spend it on the person behind you at Tim Hortons. It's a powerful thing.

Keep an eye out for SP's series of benefit shows, and please attend any that you are able to. Give 'til it hurts a bit.

To see a band that is always inside the music, and loves their fans more than Jagermeister (only slightly though), come see Silentpanic soon at a venue near you.
