"Dark Meat + The Naked Heroes Show Review"

Female drummers — they help change the face of music and inspire lady music lovers everywhere. Not only do they climb on stage, most of the time backing up their male bandmates, but then they steal the show with pure sass and spitfire.

Merica Moynihan, one half of The Naked Heroes, is a swirling redheaded blur barely visible between the skillful flicks of her long 70’s styled and her flailing, drum bashing arms. Combining sensuality and skill, Merica is one fierce force who captivated all of us in attendance at Williamsburg Music Hall for the latest edition of the FRICTION music series. The other half of The Naked Heroes, George Michael Jackson, regained his share of the stage back with his stage banter, exhibitionist displays (the two tossed their shirts two songs in) and bleeding vocals.

Together, they make their musical parents proud, rivaling The Black Keys or Black Sabbath, and at one point towards the end of their performance they belted out a stellar AC/DC cover that could have brought tears to even the most burly of biker men. Through deep soaked blues rhythms and touchingly controlled guitar streams, theirs was a set that surged with energy and turbulence.

If you enjoy absolute chaos from a band that only has two members to its name, then you are in for an experience when it comes to The Naked Heroes. Just watch out for Merica — she’s as vivacious as they come. - KEXP 90.3 Seattle

"Trash Bar Festival Review"

The next band on was a completely entertaining duo called The Naked Heroes Comprised of the stripped down "White Stripes" set up - that being a female drummer and singing guitar dude up front - they proceeded to rock out harder that Jack & Meg ever have.

Their set was amazingly hard rocking and had me (at times) grinning and laughing out loud. Frontman, guitarist George was a half-crazed ball of energy. With stream-of-conscious chatter between songs that often made little to no sense at all - they would then lurch into a hard stomper that was just balls-out fun. George is a great guitar player who would rip between chugging rhythm chords to lead riffs and back again. His pretty other half was all flying and and thash, trash bashing of drums and cymbals.

What made me laugh about this band is that they are just soooo out there. Not a self-conscious bone in their bodies.

In fact, old George decided to do the classic Iggy Pop thing (his shirt was long gone after the first song) - and throw himself in the middle of the floor in front of everybody.

They were total fun and they rocked hard too.

Bio

Way down south on a dusty road George Michael Jackson met Merica Moynihan.

Jackson was on the road busking street corners and playing solo shows in down and out dive bars. Meanwhile the fiery haired Moynihan and her brother were trying might and main to make it big touring the Bible Belt in the family Winnebago. Whether it was chance or the handiwork of Beelzebub himself, Jackson happened upon a state fair where the siblings Moynihan were rippin' out Eagle's covers. After their set, a smitten Jackson swaggered like a junkyard dog to the boozy-eyed lady Moynihan.

With a lick and a promise, a sweet jam session transpired and music as it was known toppled to the ground. The sweaty, two headed, horny rock and roll killing machine that rose from the fiery rubble became known as The Naked Heroes.

The Naked Heroes combined alchemy formed some of the most blistering brand of raw, bluesy foot stompin' boogey-woogey to grace the stages of Brooklyn and beyond.

The Naked Heroes live show is a celebration of the primal. It's greasy. Their gamey in your face rock 'n' roll leaves you feeling a little dirty, like you knocked up the prom queen and she wasn't even your date.
