Charged guitar driven rock from this SF outfit who can be found rocking around town at places like El Rio and The Eagle. We've been smitten with their take on unpretentious post-punk inspired by prime-time Talking Heads that has reminded us a bit of the first Interpol record or a more in the garage and gutsy version of Bloc Party. A really nice debut and we'll be paying close attention to what the future holds for The New Centuries.

Jeff’s guitar playing balances melody & rhythm majestically; it is the optimal style for interweaving with Ryan's semi-crooning vocals and synth parts.
They kind of reminded me of a more modern Modern Lovers, but The New Centuries bring the rock, and it's impressive.
The dynamics of the band's songs mesh well together, and it left me wanting more which I always, always love in a band.

There are many days left in March, so this is a rather assuming comment to make, but I still feel confident in saying that if there’s just one band you introduce to your speakers this month, it would be shameful not to make that band the New Centuries. They don’t seem to be able to put a foot wrong on many of their songs, offering a little slice of everything from the sounds of 70s keyboards to the stuttering guitar riffs of 2007. Basically, you need to follow the link to their Myspace, perhaps also buying yourself a copy of ‘The New Centuries EP’, available now via the internet. It’s a five-track selection that contains everything I’ve mentioned today and hours of listening time. I’m not bored yet.

The New Centuries are from a patch of concrete in San Francisco behind a hair metal club, where late at night pretty boys in tight pants grind to disco hits and the savage side of the city clings to its dwindling claim on the downtown. The music is a soundtrack for the moment when the heated rush of the club's dance floor overwhelms the mind and the blast of grey urban night chills the nerves but offers little sense of relief.
