Fascinerend The New Earth Group tript voor pop-oren. Rotterdamse freakpop van internationale klasse.

Oei, het programmaboekje oppert als referentiepunten voor The New Earth: Frank Zappa, Omar Rodriguez, John Coltrane én de
Russische meester Dimitri Sjostakovitsj en Sun Ra. "Hallo, ons eerste nummer heet de Notenkraker Boom Suite."
Dat wordt vast een zware dobber van conservatoriumgeschoolden dan? Niets is minder waar.
Muziek:
Noem het instrumentale freakrock, acidjazz voor gevorderden, iets cultureels voor Motel Mozaique, niet-voor-een-gat-te-vangen-muziek.
En dat met onder meer bongo's, een saxofonist en ongeveer 97 gitaarpedalen. De excentrieke Britse jazz-dj Gilles Peterson zou er mee
weglopen als hij het ongetitelde debuutalbum van de Rotterdammers hoorde.
Plus:
Van het begin tot het eind duik je in de muziek, meegetrokken door de fenomenale gitarist Vincent van Duin, die met zijn gitaar hele verhalen
vertelt. En dan is er ook nog de uitblinkende ritmesectie, die swingt als de tieten. Maar in plaats van de referentiepunten in het programma
boekje stikt het van de popmomenten. Het outtro van Riders On The Storm van The Doors, instrumentale stukken van de eerste albums
van The Police, en verder Santana, Muse, Dire Staits ten tijde van Telegraph Road, acid jazzband Galliano - het zit er allemaal in.
Een popquiz is er niets bij.
Min:
De bandnaam klinkt naar overmatige haargroei. En met een gemiddelde lengte van de songs van een plaatkant zit radio er voorlopig niet in.
Conclusie:
Het meeslepende The New Earth Group is live van internationale klasse met een uniek geluid. Wat er zo goed aan is, is dat het weliswaar
freakt, maar tegelijkertijd binnen de lijntjes blijft. Dat is uniek en maakt het ook voor een poppubliek licht verteerbaar.
Reclamemakers op zoek naar echts iets cools weten nu genoeg.

The New Earth Group
The New Earth Group’s music basically is the combination of themes and melodies, interchanged with long intense grooves, rooted in quite a broad spectrum of musical styles, such as jazz, Punk Rock, Funk, Fusion and Dub. Seventies Afro Funk and Fusion resonates in their sound. Orgastic, sharped-edged. At other times modest and magical.

Short History
Choca Alcazaba and Vincent van Duin write and play music together since 1991 in bands such as New Friend, The Solo Men Only, Mega Vs. Giga and the ‘legendary’ Jazz-Stoner-Impro Octet De Vogels (The birds in Dutch). With the decline of De Vogels in 2007 Vincent and Choca start a new project, The New Earth Group. They start recording in their newly self-build Studio Alcazaba. With the participation of talented artists such as drummer Robin Schaeverbeke, musician and filmmaker Jeroen Rozendaal, Photographer Menno Bouma (Elle Bandita) they make their live-debut in 2008 with the release of their first self-titled album. The album is released by Willie Anderson Recordings, releasing artists such as Omar Rodriquez-López from the Mars Volta and Israeli band Monotonix. In 2008 they play at different music and theater festivals. The same year they attract much attention with their illegal guerrilla-gigs (see Youtube) at parking lots of big music festivals such as Metropolis Festival and North Sea Jazz Festival. Armed with their huge variety of instruments and a gigantic Ford Köln army ambulance from the 1950s they’ve landed on many festival doorstep to fire their grooving jazz prog rock fusion.
In 2009 they make a favorable impression at the Noorderslag Showcase Festival in Groningen. The show gets released by Willie Anderson Recordings as Tam Boe Man, a live album.
Productive
Furthermore they play at festivals such as Oerol, Metropolis, North Sea Jazz and State X. Choca Alcazaba records a solo album in the same year and performs these songs with a smaller selection of the New Earth Group, under the name Choca Alcazaba Quartet.
Together with Vincent they work on two new TNEG albums. During the summer of 2009 the group starts recording Eurafricarabia. The release set for October 2009 is delayed because Netherlands’ coolest record label shows interest in the band.
Eurafricarabia, their third album will be released on February 20th 2010, on CD and double vinyl.
The New Earth Group will be present on this years stages and festivals with the following line-up; Jos Hoevenaars - bass, Jasper Den Dulk - percussion & drums, Fonckeltoff - keys,
Friso van Wijck - drums, Choca Alcazaba – saxophone, Vincent van Duin - guitar.
