Bio

‘What’s the style?’ … Eclectic.

Fusing new wave pop with a rock edge and electro undertones the New Electric’s sound steers clear of the obvious. Their lyrics are quirky and engaging, delivered with a raw, masculine conviction. ‘Flesh and Metal’, their first single and title song of the upcoming EP, is the tragic love story of a woman and a robot. A tongue-in-cheek melodrama, it showcases the band’s off-beat style and innate sense for the hook.

Slipping effortlessly from the angelic harmonies of the haunting ballad, ‘Blue Envy’ into the ominous tale of a stalker’s plight in ‘Bustin’ Over’, then launching into the maniacal anthem ‘Bright Slippers’, The New Electric show they are as diverse as they are original and vibrant.

The New Electric emerged on Melbourne’s band scene in the early months of 2005 and were soon headlining venues such as the Espy, Ding Dong and the Palais. Since high school, Lucchesi brothers, Marc (vocals) and Dan (drums), have been playing in bands ranging from deep 60s soul to traditional Italian folk and were founding members of the legendary funk outfit, Pornland, their cult following packing out shows at the Hi Fi Bar and Metro. With such a disparate collection of musical genres and experiences pulling at their souls the brothers knew they had to synthesise their influences. Along with ex-pornlander and long-time collaborator, Dylan Reynolds (guitar), they enlisted little brother Luca (bass) and good friend Percy Landers (keys), knowing that with these members they could create the sound they were looking for – the sound of the New Electric.

The New Electric’s outrageous and unapologetic sense of fun is infectious. It comes through on their recordings as much as in the live show. They create an underground atmosphere but at the same time their tunes are catchy and popesque. The band’s raw energy draws in their audience and their genuine talent keeps it there.
