Bio

The New Flesh is not a hallucinatory substance. The New Flesh is not McDonald’s crass appeal to the next generation. The New Flesh is much more than a Cronenberg reference. It’s a vivid, shape-shifting, fiercely self-illuminating rock group from Toronto.

Their direct and original style comes from a habit of marrying New Wave with Metal and Glam with Geek Rock. In other words, The New Flesh has paid its dues to many a club and coughed up big interest on stylistic credit. Each band member has a history of making respectable funk, indie rock or jazz music with a slew of other acts. Now, as The New Flesh, they’ve staged a revolt against these established forms.

Early on the group had little, except for a few scratches on paper and the urgency of youth. They suffered a harsh internment in their native Canada, surviving on boxes of wine hidden in storage lockers and, when they finally graduated from high school, lived together for a year in a tiny downtown rehearsal space. They called the local vermin that haunted their flat “neighbours”.

“I want to hold your hand” might have been The New Flesh’s motto two years ago, but for the group – just like The Beatles before them – reality was all too instructive. Mounting debt (real this time, not stylistic), crumbling personal relationships and the struggle for a hot meal were the hallmarks of a period that the group calls their “journey through the black forest”. Now they have fearlessly documented this journey with an independently-released, three-song “Sabotage Our Love" EP.

This, my friends, is a high you can’t get from books.
