The New Groove

The New Groove

Imagine Herbie Hancock performing with Lou Rawls-mixing jazz, blues, and classic R+B hits of the 60's to present. The quartet is an experienced and versatile group of musicians who's energy and creativity never fails to connect with the audience. We play music, but we "Perform" for our audience.

Gary Staples, Keyboards - Gary studied music at Berklee College of Music in the early 1970's while working in the metro Boston area. He traveled the east coast with various club bands until settling in the Lehigh Valley. He has played with Jazz guitarists George Benson, Mark Elf, and Grover Kemble. He has been in local bands Clue, Cover Story and The Combinations

Emmitt Harris, Vocals - As a lead vocalist for over 30 years, Emmitt has worked with musicians from the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, and New York. Emmitt has been a member of local area band Lucky 7 for the last 10 years. He landed a role in the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar at the Civic Theatre in 2004, and appeared in the dramatic production To Kill A Mockingbird in 2005.

Ben Staples, Percussion - Ben has been dedicated to playing jazz music for the past 16 years. He is a newcomer to the Lehigh Valley and has become involved in several musical projects in the area. Ben was a featured percussionist at the Maine State Jazz festival in 1997 and has played at various venues throughout the Northeast.

John Kacmarcik - Bass John started his musical career in the 60's playing a wide variety of music at a young age with good friend and guitarist extraordinaire, Tom Kozic. He got into country music very early when he first heard Chet Atkins. Mr. Kacmarcik has played with many area bands over the years and still plays with comrade Joe Wolfer from time to time. He has worked with Steve Brosky Tracy Lee, Donna Parsons, Phoenix and with Tom Kozic & Carl Hittner He also has worked with Cookin', Partytime, CMA Horizon Award winner Karen Taylor Good, Jerry Jaye, hit recording Artist Lenny Welch, Late Nite Rodeo and The Sounds of Nashville. In early 2000 John thought he'd test the waters in the freelance department of the business and enjoyed playing with different bands until he was the first round draft pick and signed a 6 year deal with the Cramer Brothers Band in 2001 which ended on 28-Aug-2006.
Recording is also a part of John's career and he has recently recorded on a CD project for Tom Kozic Steve Brosky and also on a demo project for Brittany at The Menagerie Recording Studio in Saylorsburg, PA.
John is the newest member of “The New Groove”. His soulful groove and creative ideas kicks the band at its roots. John’s experience and abilities provides the balance of talent which makes New Groove an outstanding journey in musical listening.
