"The Heights Music Festival Recap"

The Newt fired off a blazing set at Christy's Biergarten. Tight rhythms and horns were woven together to create the perfect sonic tapestry for lead singer Bethany's, sultry & smooth vocals. And guitarist Poe Coyote brought fierce guitar skills and a stage presence reminiscent of The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. - cincymusic.com

Bio

The Newt played it's first show on New Years Eve 2011. Started by guitarist Poe Coyote and bassist James Robbins, who had played together and written songs together for years in bands such as Free Sophia. They brought in trombonist Rob Myers to add a horn element and their sound started to form into a distinct blend of rock and funk. Influenced by perennial rock & roll titans such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Les Claypool (in all of his endeavors), Tool, and many others, their sound collided with the New Orleans sound, as well as European Roma notes brought in from the horns. Dale Kishbaugh joined on percussion and pinned down the details with his exuberant, full-force drumming.
The Newt is currently in its formative years, playing clubs and venues in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area. The band can hold down a 3 hour night with an eclectic mix of musical offerings, or rock a quick, hard-hitting half-hour set at a big night at a major venue, and anything in-between.
