"Album Review 1/10/07"

Thankfully, the New York Howl, ... is edgy enough to justify both the Gotham and Ginsberg nods in its name. The local quartet's self-released CD, People Will Come to See Us Ride, contains 16 reckless yet driving rock and soul numbers with strong blues underpinnings; copious tude and a brawny bari sax add welcome grit." -Time Out NY - Time Out New York

"UK Tour, 8/13/06"

"As the name states, this motley crew were from New York City and came in a package of tenor saxophone, keys/synth, guitar and drums. The action packed energy of this band was from the nucleus of a meteorite, atomic and almost alien to us mere Romans, here in humble Bath. The singer, a giant moodily howling the songs with the diction and attitude of a refused Richard Hell in a sweet shop. They display themselves in cheap suits and poets hat and could be mistaken for jazz musicians escaping from New York Penitentiary. Howling like a pack of city wolves stirring up the smoky atmosphere into a burning hell fire. Yes! Yes! YES!" - Bath Weekly, UK

"Live Review 2/23/06"

"The New York Howl, a developing local quartet centered on singer Andrew Katz, approaches R&B as if the music had been invented by James Chance and the Contortions. Onstage, the band is charismatic and unapologetically sloppy, with Katz’s vamps buttressed by prevalent sax and keyboards. " - Time Out New York

"Internet Blog / website 10/6/06"

"A couple weeks ago, I was stumbling home from a late night "meeting" at Savalas when this assault of punk-Gospal funk came hammering out of the Lucky Cat. Turned out to be The New York Howl (no relation to the festival), a loose amalgamation of NYC musicians who have graced venues as obscure (and awesome) as Rubulad and backed up bands such as the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players." - FreeNYC.net

Bio

The New York Howl is an explosive punk, blues, rock n roll, psychedelic, soul family band living in Brooklyn, New York. We share a dream. We endeavor to hold the crackling, livid, blinding, screaming, fleeting, weightless truth in the palm of our hands, in the muscle of our hearts and in the wet of our mouths. You will see us breathe bright waterfalls of fire and you will hear the sounds of children playing with electricity.

Even before the arrival of bassist Teresa "T-Bone" Amram six months ago, you would have been hard pressed to find a band in NYC with more grit and soul than The New York Howl. But with T-Bone's arrival, the Howl is now anchored by the baddest, gnarliest husband-wife rhythm section east of the Hudson, or possibly the Mississippi. Depending on the track, drummer Adam Amram conjures the fervor of Keith Moon or the smooth dexterity of Buddy Rich -- and T-Bone's bass licks follow that comet like Apollo. Axe-wielding, towering frontman Andrew Katz commands a presence like the Stax or Chess icons of old -- but is hardly a throwback in the tone of Dap. Instead, the Howl's sound is RIGHT NOW. THIS VERY INSTANT. New tracks from their forthcoming release include an ode to a fifteen-inch tall vixen, and a modern lover's plea to please "turn off the lights; and TURN OFF YOUR STUPID PHONE."
