Bio
The Nicole and Joe Band was created by Nicole Lewan and Joe Paris mid 2010. Jazz and blues are thriving passions for both. Their music is influenced by the old school greats such as Ray Charles, B.B. King, and Otis Redding, but they also trace their roots to modern artists Corinne Bailey Rae, John Mayer, D’angelo and Derek Trucks.
The first time Nicole and Joe played together there was instant chemistry; “We launched into “Little Wing” by Jimi Hendrix and it was magic” said Joe, “I just couldn’t believe how easy it flowed.” Their beginnings consisted of open mics around the Twin Cities. Nicole’s mature, smooth, yet soulful voice mixed with Joe’s bluesy, old school guitar licks would instantly turn bystanders heads. After gaining a small following, they began playing shows at venues around the Twin Cities such as The Fine Line, Honey, The Acadia, and Ginkgo’s.
Nicole and Joe recorded their first EP titled “It Goes Around” in February 2011. “It Goes Around” consists of five original tunes and a cover of Robert Johnson’s classic tune “crossroads”. It illustrates Nicole and Joe doing what they do best; reflecting on their timeless roots, and creating music they love. In the summer of 2011, Nicole and Joe added drums, bass, keys and saxophone to the duo, creating The Nicole and Joe Band. The Nicole and Joe Band debuted by opening for Twin City’s guitar slinger Billy McLaughlin, and quickly took off. The Nicole and Joe Band put on a energetic yet soulful show, rocking loud blues but bringing it down with expressive saxophone and smooth vocals. They promise their audience a good time and the sweet taste of soul music.
