Bio

After forming in late 2007, The Ninth Chapter has gone about its business, developing lasting relationships at some of the renowned venues along the East Coast of Australia with their distinctive funk and groove sound becoming an industry mainstay. “We decided early on to build a reputation the old way, through hard work and playing live” lead vocalist and guitarist Jaz Munro says. “Although the temptation has been there to travel further abroad, we have always wanted to gain that base following in our backyard before moving on”. This approach is paying dividends with rave reviews from packed live gigs at venues such as The Joynt (Brisbane), The Rails (Byron Bay), The Buddha Bar (Byron Bay), The Beach Hotel (Byron Bay), The Federal Hotel (Bellingen) and Club 505 (Sydney).

With the recently completed, overwhelmingly successful "Common Ground" EP release tour culminating in a sell out show at Sydney's renowned Club 505 , The Ninth Chapter is experiencing a busy 2011 with gigs solidly booked throughout. “Our new release definitely reflects where we are at as a band and the funk and groove element we all enjoy playing” says bass player Dan Bowland. “We seem to be hitting on something that is lacking in the market at the moment and the punters really appreciate it” he said. With the band already having gained national airplay on Triple J, they are hopeful of more of the same in 2011 with their new material.

All bar one of the 6/7 piece outfit are originally from the North Coast of NSW and they have set about ensuring their sound reflects the lifestyle they love and have grown accustomed to. “We always incorporate an element of fun in our music, and although at times there is a lot going on with the distinctive funk bass and brass, there is always the solid undertone of a relaxed good time” says Percussionist/Vocalist Glen McClymont.

With The Ninth Chapter already sharing the stage with industry heavy weights such as Blue King Brown, Dallas Frasca, Grinspoon and Gyroscope, as well as attracting special guests such as ARIA award winning MC Double D from Sneaky Sound System, the future seems bright. “We’ll just take it as it comes and as long as everyone enjoying our music and having a good time, the rest should take care of itself” says Vocalist/Guitarist Jaz Munro.

Now looking further abroad, extended tours and more festivals have become more of a focus. “Heading further South and North, to promote the new EP, is next” states Glen. “The support we receive from our regular runs has been unbelievable and now is the right time to take the good times further abroad”.
