Bio
The No is an audio-graphical project from Tamara van der Laarse. (1977, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
She studied graphic design at Gerrit Rietveld Academy and has designed The No in graphics & sound, 3 years ago. The No is also a DJ, spinning electro acid, wave, post-punk, rave-trash, pop, basically anything with a good beat! Because of her finetuned musical exquisite knowledge, she has supported as a dj big international acts like: LCD Soundsystem, Pitchtuner, The Klaxons, The Faint, !!!(chk-chk-chk), ZZZ, The Bravery, T-Raumschmiere, Infadels. Recently The No has been personally invited by Soulwax & 2 Many DJ's for a double gig at Radio Soulwax in Amsterdam!
The No (dj-set) is the alter ego of this musical aspect next to producing own tracks, some of them have been released on independant labels, or in self-released edition.
About The No:
Creates electronic music and usues different elements form various genres, such as: classical music, acid, noise, electro, the mathematical stuctured beats are the characteristic sound of The No!
The No is dealing with things that are not there, in order to achieve anything she wants.
The No is no band, has no agency, no sponsor, no label, no agent and rarely does live performances, since the starting point was just a conceptual desire.
The No’s desired thoughts are important messages used in the design for c.d’s stickers, website, and so on.The typographical elements are an essential hybride form within the total concept of the design.
Music is important and that’s one of the reasons The No exists!
Goal: To travel around the world, play music and to be added to the list of little respected female electronic artist around! Ultimate No desires: go on tour/ play at festivals & great clubs as live act or dj. Support likeminded artists like Björk, Radiohead, Aphex Twin, anything suitable with my sound or anything I can musically relate to.
