the Nomadz

Undeniably straightforward in their approach, the Nomadz use only two instruments and two voices to tell stories through rich melody, smooth harmony and simple guitar. Currently based in Fernie, BC, the duo united in 2007 after successful solo endeavours. Their musical style can be best described as a mosaic combining the reggae upstrokes of Bedouin Soundclash, the vagabond lyrics of Bob Dylan, the soulful harmonies of Old Crow Medicine Show and the dual guitar dynamic of Slightly Stoopid.

Jessbone released his self-titled EP in Summer 2007 and played shows all over Ontario and British Columbia in support of the album. Tracks from the album were played on LU radio in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He grew up Thunder Bay, Ontario under the influence of his father’s song writing and the sounds of his classic rock records: Kansas, Led Zeppelin and the Doobie Brothers. He grew into his own appreciating artists like K-os, Ben Harper, Xavier Rudd and Neil Young.

Mike Shaver has been chosen to participate in the RocKIN’ the Peace (Ft. St. John) contest twice (2005, 2007) finishing both times in the top three while being the only out-of-town act and only one of three solo acts. He has had the good fortune of lending both guitar and vocal assistance on Aaron Bird’s upcoming album. His song, “Dawson Bound” was used by the Discovery Channel for a piece on Daily Planet. "Dawson Bound", "Nightmares from the Patch", and "Midnight Optimist" have all been played on MooseFM in Ft. St. John. His early influences include such metal giants as Megadeath, At The Gates, Killswitch Engage, thankfully mellowing into Doc Watson, Greg MacPherson, and the Decemberists.

The Nomadz are currently hosting two nights of music at the Central in Fernie, playing shows in and around the East Kootenays, and will be hitting the festival circuit this summer.
