"North Lakes"

The North Lakes are with a knack for carefully deployed vocal hooks and instrumental flourishes. - UK Line Of Best Fit

"We Believe In North Lakes"

From the dimmed lights in the basement to the spotlights of Hunter’s Ale House in Charlottetown, PEI. The North Lakes have come a long way in a year. The North Lakes released their album Cobra in 2010 which won the 2011 Music PEI award for Best Alternative Recording of the Year. They have been touring throughout eastern and central Canada. - Junnnk Tank

"Ottawa Citizen's Best Records of 2011"

There’s only one question I need ask myself when choosing the Big Beat 10 best Records of 2011: which record did I want to listen to the most? The answer is . . .North Lakes. - Ottawa Citizen

"North Lakes making a big splash"

But the eclectic nature of the album is the reason The North Lakes have received a lot of attention lately. Two weeks ago they nabbed a Music PEI Award for Best Alternative Recording of the Year and are inching their way up the CBC R3/30 countdown with their song Bravado. - HereNB

"PEI's alt-rockers are enroute to a big breakout."

These days, everything's coming up The North Lakes. Their debut EP Cobra just earned them a Music PEI award and their single "Bravado" is climbing the CBC Radio Three chart fast. And not only have they been chosen to play an ECMA showcase in April, but they'll also be playing their way up to Canadian Music Week in March. - Halifax The Coast

"CHARTattack: The North Lakes — Cobra"

"Whatever The North Lakes attempt here, they pull off admirably.

The North Lakes' most notable strength is their near-impeccable lyricism." - CHARTattack

"Music on P.E.I.: ‘so much friggin’ talent’"

"The North Lakes (Alternative Recording of the Year Award winners) delivered an incredibly powerful set of songs, led by the dynamic Lou-Reed-esque vocals of Nathan Gill and backed by the new addition of Roger Carter on keyboards. It was quite a tough act to follow..." - The Guardian newspaper

"Charlottetown: The North Lakes of the East Coast"

I love it when a band sounds the way they dress. It feels honest rather than calculated, simple rather than complicated. For example, The White Stripes sound like lovers of dramatic color schemes, Emily Haines sounds like a romper-wearing cool kid, and Charlottetown’s newest band The North Lakes sound like the earnest, sheepish, shy, cardigan-wearing group they are. Remember The Wonder Years? The North Lakes are the band whose music would have been playing in the background when Winnie Cooper dumps Kevin for the first time. They wear button-ups and grandpa’s sweater, polka dots and wire-rim glasses. Basically, they dress and sound like your first heartbreak.

The North Lakes consists of Nathan Gil (vocals, guitar), Mike Carver(drums), Chris Francis(bass/harmonica) and Gillian Arsenault (vocals, guitar and piano) and while the band has only been together a short time, they’ve already begun to attract attention. “Cold Ottawa Wind” has been getting play on CBC Radio 3, they’ve had shows in bars around the Maritimes and are currently working on an EP for summer. Their sound is a fusion of folk pop, and blues and I can hear shades of both Dylan and Rilo Kiley. I also double dare you to not fall in love with Nathan Gil’s voice. It’s stripped of cosmetics, raw and impossible to resist. Check out my new favourite band at myspace.com/thenorthlakes. - FashionMagazine.com

Bio

Sending reverberations from beyond the Confederation Bridge, North Lakes are a rock n’ roll band that radiate with swagger and bravado. Taking their cue from ‘60s pop and garage rock, the energetic five-piece combines vivid lyrical imagery and a colossal roar of musicality to craft punchy, concise rock records.

Their latest album, Grand Prix, captures North Lakes at their most raw. Recorded in a church in Long Creek by Adam Gallant (whose credits include acts such as Boxer The Horse, The Danks, English Words, Al Tuck and more) and produced by Colin Buchanan (Paper Lions) the album is a testament to the galvanized direction and ambition of the up-and-coming Prince Edward Island-based band.

Grand Prix comes on the heels of North Lakes’ debut, Cobra, which earned the band a Music PEI Award for Best Alternative Album in 2011. Since then, North Lakes have been performing steadily throughout the Maritimes and showcasing at industry events such as the East Coast Music Awards in Moncton, New Brunswick in April, Music PEI Week in Charlottetown, PEI in January and Canadian Music Week last March.

North Lakes are:
Nathan Gill (Two Hours Traffic)
Mike Carver (Milks & Rectangles)
Roger Carter (Racoon Bandit)
Chris Francis
Chris Robison

The band has performed as direct support of acts such as Yukon Blonde, Cuff The Duke, Matt Mays, The Novaks, Said The Whale, Apollo Ghosts, Paper Lions, Library Voices, and Baby Eagle.
