The Norway Agenda

BandRockAlternative

A unique blend of all the members’ listening habits and experience, The Norway Agenda’s sound bridges the gaps between classic, progressive, alternative, and indie rock. With its dual guitar attack, melodic bass lines, and bad-ass drummer, The Norway Agenda appeals to rock audiences of all sorts.

Biography

In Wichita, a band had better be damned good to stand out from the glut of cover and metal bands that flood the bars and venues. Luckily, The Norway Agenda fit that bill, writing accessible, entertaining, yet complex and original rock, and playing balls out at every show.

The band formed in the summer of 2005 after a series of animated auditions - from a drummer straight out of 'Trainspotting' to a bassist who has a secret love affair with the late Kurt Cobain. Following this long, difficult, sometimes ridiculous process, the right pieces finally fell into place.

After years of line-up shuffling and an evolving sound, The Norway Agenda have emerged in the Wichita music scene as one of the premier rock bands. Separately, the four members bring a wide ranging mix of influences to the table. Brian Jones draws from his background as a punk rock drummer as well as being a fan of bands like The Who, Fugazi and Operation Ivy. Bassist Kevin Hess brings a more melodic side, citing Nada Surf, Silversun Pickups, Muse, and Dinosaur Jr as major influences. And while Derek Bennett's vocals and guitar-playing has been inspired by bands such as Tool, U2 and Dredg, guitarist Tim Allen’s sensibilities have been heavily shaped by Minus The Bear, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, and his beloved Beatles. Collectively, the band plays an energetic brand of alternative rock that draws from classic rock, prog, and modern indie rock and consistently impresses audiences.

On The Shelf

Written By: The Norway Agenda

On the Shelf

Slowed down to a slight hum
It's not unlike
Losing a sense of yourself
While you're high up on the shelf
It's a restless feeling wandering aimlessly
Into another confusion
I know all too well

On the sidelines looking your way
And I caught your eyes
Looking away
And I make the mistake of moving on
Feels like I'm ten years behind
And what will I find
A world that has lost all it's wonder
And I'm back here wondering why

I'll keep it on until there's a sign
from one of my satellites
I feel like I'm here
Burning my gas for a flight
Do you know how it goes?
Should I just walk up to the fight?
I've got a sun
But it only comes out at night

On the sidelines looking your way
I don't know what to say
So I'll just scream it out
'Til I'm out of my mind

Escalera

Think I've seen this all before
In another life I'm sure
Still got blood, still got these hands
That a thousand years won't change

In a certain light, all
This seems like it's been done
Everyone should look for more

From behind this simple wall
I can't see but for the fall
We can set this boat on fire
And swim our way to shore

We can make this night ours
Each of us in the stars
They can't see us

Kamikaze Love

Kamikaze Love

The feeling inside says it's alright
No need to hide here on the front lines
You know you're bringing me to life
Only a fool could make it alone

I'm all caught in the way
Under my breath I'm screaming for days
I can see it's gonna come
The expiration date of your love

Gotta let you go....

You're making it hard
You're making me come
Back again under a cold sun
I'll do anything to get inside
Though I know I won't make it out alive

I'm all caught in the way
This feeling that says you'll be gone in a day
This time I'm taking it back
Tear down my walls
I'm on the attack

Gotta let you go...

I'm all caught in the way
Under my breath I'm screaming for days
I can see it's gonna come
The expiration date of your love

Canyons

Written By: The Norway Agenda

Canyons

Saw you out there in the streets
Last night in a dream
Now you feel so
Out of reach
You've got
Stone black eyes so unassuming
Just the way I'd like to live
Just the way I like your honesty
But honestly

Tell me know
How could I commit to a life
Where the only one is
Lost in the canyons of my mind?

With no direction to give the way
I stumble through a haze
The shadows are all I see
Strewn across your face
Throw my love into the fire
So the flames can reach to you
Then burn me back with that
4 a.m. gaze and I'm through
How you've got me, got me bound
For someone I may never know
Feels like the eyes of an angel
Or the arms of a ghost
How you've got me, got me now
For someone I could never show
I feel you, feel you
I feel you, feel you

Tell me know
How could I commit to a life
Where the only one is
Lost in the canyons of my mind?

Diadem

Diadem

Found a soul
Moving ground through the radio
In the silent drawn-out wake
Give a way to let it go
With/without
Flying down your round-about
You know I've got everything
But will I let it stay
On the turns
I crash and burn
It's only real
It's not the way I feel anymore
Higher and higher
That space grows inside her
It's on my mind
Until it's all but gone

And the hours are divided
These little lives they breath and move on
I'm undecided between it and it's song

The black and white
melts down to gray at night
Take heed these subtleties
And you'll be halfway to me
Complicate the patterns in your brain
It's hard to comprehend
What makes them understand
Why I try so long when no one's on the phone
It's almost like I'm alone
Spill out my insides and kill all these alibi
They're in my bones
Until I'm all but gone

And the hours are divided
These little lives they breath and move on
I'm undecided between it and it's song
So I'll pack up my bravado
Through the fields I'll drive in my car
I'm on the wire
Right where I belong

Torched

Torched

Come out, it's a new day
Ride it through the night
Never hearing the call
Saying "Come into the light"
Watching the clouds on their way out
If I could let 'em go
Moving ahead while looking back
At how could this be so

Break into the safe
Take that money out
Buy yourself a wall
And burn that fucker down
Watching the clouds on their way out
If I could let 'em go
Moving ahead while looking back
At how could this be so

Elusive #10

Written By: The Norway Agenda

Elusive #10

A scenic view from the floor
Holding on
Feeling something strong
If I could make my way
I'd be out the door
I should be back home
Cold rag
Nursing myself back
It seems I'm on the verge
Of losing track

Can't get much higher
Than when you're barely alive
The smell of the tires

All I see is a lazy eye
In the glare of the car lights
Suddenly everything is black
My arms behind my back
I love a surprise

What can I do now?
The rope is tied
Calling my name out
I hear the voice say
"Son, get down on the ground!"
Guess I chose the wrong place to break
My final mistake
I had the cash in hand
Look at me now

Can't get much higher
Than when you're barely alive
The smell of the tires

All I see is a lazy eye
In the glare of the car lights
Lately everything is black
My arms behind my back
Holding together the fray
Until I'm ready to make my escape
Now.....

I love a surprise

Bound To Break

Written By: The Norway Agenda

Bound to Break

There's something in your eyes
I cannot feel
I've got a space in the air
You cannot steal
Is there a way
To see through this charade?
Cause I'm afraid
Of being what I hate
Unsure
If there's a reason to find
You in my heart
Without a tie here to bind
What's been apart
Cause all we've got are tired cliches
And the effect of my unaffected ways
Unsure

Because it's bound to break
Caught in the light, the show
In the miles that separate
Without you
I'll never be alone

There's something in your eyes
In your eyes

Because it's bound to break
Caught in the light, the show
In the miles that separate
Without you
I'll never be alone

Years ago
I was on your back
You were giving rides
Into blue skies
A little fool
Second only to you
And all the while
You were your own child

Eyes are burned in the light
Your heart on the floor
With the moonshine
The higher you go
The farther I fall
Don't turn around
Lose sight of it all

Waking up
I slide out of bed
Breaking up the sounds in my head
Stubborn are the thoughts that ring out
Bringing me no end
When the sun goes down
They begin

Eyes are burned in the light
Your heart on the floor
With the moonshine
The higher you go
The farther I fall
Don't turn around
Lose sight of it all

Years ago
I was on your back
You were giving rides
Into blue skies

Running down the hall
Screaming out for god
I hear my own echo
Telling me the approximate size of the room
I thought I found you
Here after all this time
They say you surround me but I
Think it's all in my mind

It's all in my mind
It's all in my ...

Don't act like I'm out here alone
Cause we're all staring at the same sun
Wondering which way we're gonna go
I'm just fine with I don't know

If it's all mythological
Or could it be a combination
Of reality and aparation
Can't walk in a straight line
I can't keep my head from turning to the side
I guess you could say
I've got got got, got no fucking clue

I've got no fucking clue
I've got no fucking ...

Don't act like I'm out here alone
Cause we're all staring at the same sun
Wondering which way we're gonna go
I'm just fine with I don't ...

Piercing the night sky
I watch the stars collide
I can't understand it
So why should I even try?
We're singing the same song
But you only here what's in your head
Why can't you say
That you've got got got, got no fucking clue

You've got no fucking clue
You've got no fucking ...
